I’ve been told that Adin Hill is an elite goaltender who is in the top 10 in the NHL though!?

I actually ran all of the numbers at a game by game level. The TL;DR is Vegas would be doing a lot better with not atrocious goaltending – league rank in parentheses:
32-17-14 with 78 Points (8th)
162 Goals Against (T-2nd)
+38 Goal Differential (5th)
2.542 GAA (3rd)
0.893 Save Percentage (15th)
9.118 Goals Against Above Expected (23rd)
This is if the team scored the same goals in each game, Schmid played the exact same as he has in each game, and all the other goalies weren’t atrocious. I did try to account for 6on5 goals and I was very pessimistic about winning in overtime.
Here is a very short summary of how I got here: if the expected goals in a situation were X.300 or greater I rounded up. So 2.34 xGoals at 5on5 rounded to 3 goals, but 2.29 rounded down to 2. Then I added up all the new goals against from each situation for a game to get a new total goals against. I kept VGK’s scoring the exact same and looked at the new goals differential to assign new wins and losses.
I’m going to make a longer post explaining what I did to get there later.
