You usually get more value if you move them leading up to the trade deadline rather than on trade deadline. You play with fire when you leave it late. You’re hoping for desperation. There wasn’t much.

GMs have reputations, I’ve heard that Brad has a reputation of being paralyzed in tough situations and being a pushover.
As fans we don’t hear about most examples and yet: too scared to trade Marner before his NMC kicked in, didn’t push for a top 10 protected pick from the Bruins, couldn’t get market value for McMann, Laughton, OEL, Stetcher, etc. couldn’t get anything for Kampf, the list goes on and he’s been GM for less than 2 seasons

Not sure what the question is. Bobby is 29 and has 32 points. Laughton is 31 and has 13 points. I would expect to get more of a return on McMann.

Because our mangement is a bunch of clowns that are known for destroying teams, pretty simple. The only logical reason is that Laughton said zero chance he would resign then you’re forced to take the best offer. But the biggest flop was giving up a 1st and a prospect initially.

They waited a bit too long to move them, plus both McMann and Laughton are UFAs this summer while the other guys mentioned have another year on their contracts left.

i wholeheartedly believe as an oiler fan that the Oilers were offering their first for McMann and Tre said no and they did the Dickinsion deal instead.
The teams that jumped the deadline and got business done earlier did better in their returns. The market collapsed and the greedy teams hoping for bidding wars that didn’t happen got burned because the talent just wasn’t there.
