Briere- Jones- Tocchet all being buddies makes this that much worse. This will drag on way longer than it would in a normal/healthy organization…. Then again, a normal/healthy organization isn’t letting a green President/green GM hire their buddy as HC for 5/25 in first place.
Apparently the only people who didn’t know Tocchet would be an awful choice were the people hiring him. This team loves hiring the wrong people simply because of their past connections to the Flyers. Basically a guaranteed way to make a terrible fucking hire.

The intense hate this fanbase has for a fairly innocuous coach is so weird.
The biggest rub I have with Tocchet is his corporate-manager word-salad communication style. I hate listening to him talk, but that’s my own personal preference for directness and… you know… *complete sentences*. Other than that, he strikes me as just a guy executing a systems choice (which I don’t love, but also don’t hate) in a fairly reasonable way with respect to the roster he’s been given.
Michkov got a point last night, and it’s great to see him having chemistry with Barkey (who I also love) but his game overall didn’t really look much better or worse than when he’s been on the left side this season. I think there’s a lot of confirmation bias in this thread, and I think if fans are expecting there to be some kind of seismic shift in his production playing on the right, they’re going to be disappointed. He’s just having a down year.
I really haven’t seem much from Tocchet to feel strongly about positively OR negatively so far, and I really don’t see what he’s actually done that could have people so riled up. His system is a bit boring, but it does lead to a lot of close games. Maybe that’s better for the team’s success in their current configuration? Scoring more goals would certainly be fun, but not if we give up 10 breakaways and lose every game 8-4 like last season.
Honestly, it seems like most people in the thread are just looking for stuff to be mad about. I don’t get wanting all of that negativity around a sport you’re supposed to enjoy.
The team will either start winning a lot under Tocchet next season, or it won’t, and he’ll get fired. In the meantime, we’re seeing Barkey make a place for himself way earlier than expected, we’re getting to see Bump, and we’ll probably see Bonk and Martone at some point. We’ll definitely see Jiricek all of next season. There’s a lot to be happy about, and I don’t understand why you’d want to sour that by focusing on hating Tocchet for pretty much no reason.
