I’m on the train of giving away this years first round pick to Boston (obviously keep if its Top 5 and we win the lottery), cause do we really want to go into next year with this guy as a potential 1OA and us not having a first round pick and potentially giving him away?
Its best to get it over with and hand over the pick. If not then the next two first rounders are gone guaranteed. Protection will be removed
If we get lucky and win the lottery the 2027 pick is top 10 projected as well. We could go deep into 2029 without giving up a 1st if we shit the bed against next year
You take a top 5 pick this year 100% over a tiny chance at a 1st pick next year. There’s 2.5 guys thatre on DuPont’s level this year. There’s really only DuPont next year, it’s a pretty big fall off.
Like the 5th pick this year (I know we can’t really get it) might be as valuable as number 2 next year. Like, I’m taking Smits/Reid over a kid that’s a point per game in the Q. There’s a couple other intriguing guys but they’ll need to rise a bit more (Privalov, Fitzhenry). Like I think Tynan Lawrence would be unanimously the second pick, and he’s probably going to be 6-10 this year.
Edit: for example Pelosi (who is mocked 2nd a lot) has 8 points in the USHL this year. Lawrence had 54 last year. Next year is a really weak draft class.

He’s good, but has dropped out of 1st overall contention. Nazar Privalov and Alexis Joseph are the ones to watch in what is going to be an extremely deep year
This kid is legit.
That’s fine and dandy, but why is everyone on board with blowing it up completely? Why are we already throwing in the towel for NEXT season.
This team still has Auston Matthews, William Nylander, John Tavares. You have a still productive Tavares on the biggest discount in the NHL, and despite the team’s struggles, Willy has been a rock star all season.
Matthews has struggled but he’s in a system that’s suffocating him. He just had 7 points in 6 games in a best on best tournament and captained them to gold. He still has it guys, its this Berube system.
This isn’t a team you tear down to the studs, this is a team that needs a new coach (preferably a young one with modern ideas), a new GM and a president that’ll stay out of the fucking way.
There are some diamonds in the rough in FA this year and we have some interesting pieces with the Marlies. Bring in a GM that isn’t afraid to make some moves and embraces a youth movement and this team can turn this around real quick
