That’s a STRONG statement for Monty sadly. But that’s the right decision.

  3. JehovahsBestWitness

Translation: We need to win, our division is fucked. Montembault won’t help with that.

  4. ej62564

They have 5 out of 8 points in last 4 games. The sky IS NOT falling

  5. haddonfieldsecret

Damn. No real way to answer that without twisting the dagger that’s already in Monty but…damn.

  6. aCROOOOOOOOOO

ITS BEEN 5 QUESTIONS YOU ASK ME ABOUT THE GOALIE SITUATION.

Damn, he seemed pissed at that reporter

  7. Isle709

Yeah Monty…bud…you seem like a great guy…but I don’t see him on the team next year.

  8. triscos1995

Sheeeesh Marty is not messing around

  9. popejohnlarue

Pretty pathetic giving in to fan pressure like this. Come on, Marty—grow a spine! /s

I defended Monty for the longest, understanding that his injury might have messed up with his training during the summer. But at the end of the day, whether true or not, results matter and he’s not showing results. MSL has been extremely patient but at this point we need to ensure we ice the best team possible every night. It’s also part of going from a rebuild to a contender.

It is the timing of the goals. Very early in games, first couple of shot. Like the last game was just laughable it was so predictable. And then late in games too. Monty is just not good enough this year. Worse, it doesn’t appear as though he’s battling hard to track pucks and on multiple occasions this year he’s given the other team literally a free goal. Like this goal makes zero sense. Why do you no look it? Why don’t you use the boards?

It just feels like he’s trolling us out there and in his interviews and I think the team has noticed.

I hate to pile on a player that isn’t performing well but I just don’t see the effort or the accountability from Monty.

Montembeault went from so good he cost us a chance at Connor Bédard, to so bad he cost us a chance at winning the division.
Kind of feel bad for him. I thought he could legit be Canada’s Olympic goalie a year and a half ago. His mental state must be rough right now.

I mean no offence to Monty and I wish him well but I really hope this quiets the « Monty isn’t doing that bad » and « We need to be patient with Monty » crowd a little bit. I get it, you wanna be loyal to your guys.. but c’mon, he stinks right now. You can cherry pick stats all you want.. he’s costing us games.

  14. onetwotree333

    Shiiiiit. That’s not mincing words.

  15. jaguarnihilist

Goalies are wierd man. It’s the right call tho. Let’s go Fowler!!!

  16. mago_is_gago

I thought Monty did well during last game’s shootout. I thought he would be given more chances, because he HAS shown potential for improvement.

Very surprising move. Fowler is great for sure but I thought he would only return next year.

This likely means the end of Monty as a regular Habs goalie, sad for him, he was improving.

  17. Subject_Translator71

No one can say Monty wasn’t given a chance. Fighting for a playoff spot with two rookie goalies is definitely not an ideal situation for the team but they don’t have much of a choice. Maybe we’ll get lucky with Fowler.

  18. lynypixie

I am a bit nervous that he is starting against a team in our division. He has not started with the Habs in a long time. I hope he is ready.

  19. Low_Cod_3758

“For tonight “ scares me. He better not flip flop again.

  20. okokokoyeahright

Marty and Hugo are the ones who are there to make the hard calls.

Sometimes these are not popular ones. Much as I love Monty and his never quit attitude, I feel this is the right decision. Way she goes.

  21. Piccione_Sol

I cant believe it. Monty is the best goalie in the NHL by far. What a bunch of nonsense

  22. ManOnFire26

Good decision, 29 is way too old to be treated like a Make A Wish kid

  23. MasterDeagle

I mean I agree with him put thats a lot of pressure for the kid. Basically must win tonight, if Fowler gives 5 goal on 20 shots he’s gonna feel like shit.

  24. newf_13

Pretty sure this is all about getting ready to trade a goalie in the offseason if something good comes up

  25. destroyermaker

I’m just happy they have faith in fowler

  26. Spicy_Pickle_6

Probably the shittiest part of the job but it is what it is
