you’re overthinking it
Anything Eric Francis does makes everyone’s life harder, especially Conroy
Eric Francis is a blowhard
If the org is letting a beat write harm their leverage, that’s on the org lol
I think Francis has a beat on the rumblings coming out of the dome, then uses those rumblings to make articles that can come true. If he’s right, he looks really good and if not, the hate yall have for him stays the same
Eric Francis has not got the power to do anything like that.
Nobody reads his stuff
All he’s doing is reading the info we all gather in the hockey boards and this reddit page, how keen we are and the things we notice, the things other media reports and regurgitates it into one article. He’ll probably read this…. Hi Francis!
Every market has these reporters though. There’s always someone publishing their « scoops ». It’s innocuous enough that there are dozens of these guys scattered across the league and clearly no one is trying to clamp down on them.
I don’t think GMs really consider what these guys write. Most of what they’re putting out there are things that anyone could reason out and any GM can get better info by picking up the phone than any reporter could.
>sometimes it feels like every hint becomes league wide public knowledge.
The odds that
1) GMs even know who Francis is, nevermind read his articles
and
2) Don’t already know the info before he writes about it
is slim to none.
GMs are going to know about potential trades, prospects etc well before Conroy gives anything to the media.
Nobody respectable pays attention to anything that guy thinks or says.
I don’t like Eric Francis at all but his articles don’t hurt the organization or Conroy at all. He is the most connected reporter to the team so he has more information that he puts into articles for us the fans. If the team had issues with it they would cut him off.
Given that Francis is an ownership mouthpiece and nothing more (same with Spector for the Oilers), no. And even if the answer was yes, it’s by design.
If any GM or player is directly making their decisions based on a local beat writer’s then they’re a moron. Francis writes to get clicks and I’m sure he has some inside info but I really doubt a GM is reading his stuff like, « Ha! Got you over a barrel now Conroy. Eric Francis said you want to move so and so before the draft. »
Every team in all major sports has someone (or multiple) just like him who’s job to post things like this. Seeing the crap that other franchises have gone through with leaks and such makes me feel like we don’t have it too bad
Still have no idea why the Flames organization lets Francis even into the building.
I think it harms the organization’s relationship with the players but I don’t think it harms any of the deals management does.
Eric Francis is not writing a word unless the organization says he can lol
100%,same with Seravalli.
It’s Eric Francis. No one cares
No but they hurt my brain
!Francis
Francis stated on air about 2 days before the Kadri trade that Colorado wouldn’t trade for Kadri. Really don’t think he has much of a pulse on anything critical.
Whatever Mr Francis writes, are his interpretations of what Conroy is saying? He’s gonna have opinions, many opinions, people may not agree with. A lot of people too at times depends on topic, or who. Anyway, yeah I feel like Francis is trying to give false information too via his opinions. Idk good writers make ya think.
Honestly, I think by the time Eric gets the info, the other GMs already know.
If Eric can guess which college player is targeting, the other GMs certainly can.
As far as trade targets and leverage, Craig would have already been communicating with the other GMs, so they know about those too.
If Eric does happen upon some information he shouldn’t have, it is probably a player or agent that is causing the leak anyway.
