Important part! He’s going to Laval for the rest of the season
> Mittelstadt also signed a one-year, one-way AHL contract and will join the Laval Rocket for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
It was expected. Guy’s a real solid defenceman on Minnesota, don’t let the +/- fool you

I think he is gonna impress a lot of people. Every time I watched him, he was solid.
Habs brass loves him, here is a snippet from the article Arpon Basu wrote last summer at development camp:
>As for Mittelstadt, born Jan. 22, 2003, in Eden Prairie, Minn., the Canadiens are even more eager to “get him over.” They would have liked for it to happen already. Instead, Mittelstadt will be going back to the University of Minnesota for his senior season to chase a national championship.
>“I may be speaking out of turn, but we would have signed him. But he’s a Minnesota guy, and that Gopher program is like the Canadiens here in Montreal. So I respect that,” Ramage said. “We had the defence meeting yesterday and I told him to stand up. I said, ‘Guys, he’s not 6-foot-4, 220 (pounds).’ Frankie (Bouillon) and I have watched him throughout his college career; he plays the game textbook. His angles, he’s very efficient, just very smart. He’s not a killer, but his coach loves him. He’s consistent. We talk about consistency all the time and he personifies that. He’s just a solid young man.”
>Mittelstadt, like Konyushkov, is an undersized defenceman. He’s listed at 5-foot-11, which would explain why he went undrafted twice and lasted until the seventh round his third time on the board.
>“He’s been one of my favourites since we got him,” said Bouillon, who had a long career as an undersized, third-pairing defenceman. “He’s not a flashy guy, but every game I watched of his, if you read my reports, every single one is a cut and paste of the last one because he’s a guy who does everything well on the ice. He’s so smart, and it’s guys like this, guys who find a way to be smart, who make it to the NHL.”
>In Mittelstadt’s three seasons in Minnesota, he’s registered 21, 20 and 18 points. Seemingly not much of a progression from a production standpoint, but production is not the reason the Canadiens like him. It is his steadiness and heady game, and he knows it.
>“I think my game just matured,” Mittelstadt said. “I know what it takes for me to take that next step, and I think that’s just playing good defence and breaking pucks out and playing smart all over the ice.”
>This is just one example of how the Canadiens can backfill depth roles through the draft. What’s clear from watching the group at development camp is that they have gathered a varied group of players to draw from in the future. It will be up to Ramage, Bouillon and the rest of the development staff to guide them to those future NHL depth roles. Their jobs have perhaps never been more vital to the Canadiens.
He is a 7th round pick!
Cool to see guys drafted that low work their way up the ranks.
Sounds chill. Could be a replacement call-up on our bottom pair depending on what we do with Struble and Xhekaj. Bottom pair left handed defensemen are one of the easiest to fill positions in the league, so having a minimum contract guy like him could be useful

So we have Luke Tuch and now Luke Mittelstadt in Laval
6 for 7 on signing their overage drafts now?
Pretty good hit rate.
Hes good they wanted to sign him last year
Sure, an Upperstadt would have been preferable but this is still a pretty good return on a 7th round pick.

Surprising.
