Meh we will figure it out. Or we go golfing early. I lean more towards figuring it out. Game felt closer than the score board. As long as we aren’t getting blown out I still have faith.

I’m starting to panic low key lol

Definitely not panicking, I think the road trip is coming at a good time. Desperately need to tighten up things on the back end though. I’d feel a lot better if our problem was just the offense drying up. We look a lot like the Lightning teams of the past couple years giving up tons of rush chances and generally being out of position at times.

I’d feel confident we could talent our way through the first round if it were Detroit, Boston or CBJ. But it’s looking like Montreal and I think they can and will beat us if we continue to play this loose on the back end.

We’re like 4 pts out of second wildcard spot lmao and playing our worst hockey yet.

The Lightning coaches are still hoping/believing Hedman is a #1 Defenseman. Since the Olympic break, they keep putting him out in different combinations hoping he’ll be back to Hedman of old. Tonight, they had him paired with Moser on his offside to start the game. It didn’t work for either of them.

2nd period, coaches switched the D pairings putting the pair that has been #1 most of the season back together again. They split up Cernak and McDonagh so each offensive defenseman had a defensive one paired with them. In addition, Holmberg was out alot with the Hedman/Cernak line helping cover the neutral and defensive zones.

As a result, the Defense settled down. Exits were smoother and defensive coverage was better for the rest of the game. The entire team played more confidently once Hedman was protected, his line assignments were easier, and his ice time was reduced. His total TOI was skewed due to getting caught out with Cernak for 2:35 during the 4 on 4 in 2nd. And, a 1:52 shift near the end of the 3rd.

The template is there for better team defense and more confident play. Hopefully, the coaching staff finally comes to terms with the player Hedman is now and stop trying to let him play his way back to form – a form that no longer exists.
