I 100% understood not adding anyone last year at the deadline. We had nothing to lose and we were just hanging around the playoff hunt. Standing pat made sense.

But this year felt different. We were sitting in a playoff spot at the deadline and clearly in the mix. You’re telling me we couldn’t make a deal for a bottom pair defenseman? Just someone who can eat a few minutes and stabilize things a bit?

Instead we’re sitting here in a back to back game with our 6th D basically glued to the bench in the third period. As a result we’re rolling five defensemen and guys are clearly gassed. That puck battle where Guhle looked completely out of gas it cost us the game.

Like was this actually the plan? To roll five defensemen in a back to back while we’re pushing for a playoff spot?

I get not mortgaging the future, but adding a cheap depth defenseman felt like the most obvious move in the world. Feels like that decision is going to bite us in the ass… honestly it already has.

  2. No_Culture9898

Losing back to back this late in the season, that too at home stings like a mf.

  3. matthewdonut

at least it was an entertaining game. extemely frustrating loss. powerplay was the biggest reason we lost this one imo. oh well. onto the next

  4. oskavelli

didn’t expect to lose these both. that’s going to be a killer in the race I’m sorry, defense is getting worse every game so Idk what’s going to happen at this point

  5. Just throwing away points in games we should’ve won, the east is too tight for this level of play

They have to wake up soon or this will get ugly

  6. Throaway44009988

Uncomfortable conversations need to start being held about kaiden guhle

Its one thing to miss time every year like he does, its another to be such a liability the way hes been as well this year

  7. HabsFan77

Not even a single point tonight is an actual tragedy 😖

  8. Ropeycarnivore

Demidov almost had high-reel goal. Fowler almost bailed out shit defence out in the third. We almost were going to OT to get a point at the very least. A night of Almosts. Shitty weekend. I hope there is a just a bug going around the room, because fucking oof

  9. OtisPan

Our defensive play is absolutely abysmal too often.

No puck luck tonight, either, while the ducks got enough for 2 goals.

  10. Old_General_6741

We had the game until the last 2 mins. Two loses in a row.

  11. YannBuch

Boston, Detroit and the Islanders up next. If we keep this level up, in a week’s time we’re safely outside the playoff spot. And very much deservedly so.

  12. indybrick96

When is this Hutson-Guhle experiment going to end. It has made all 3 pairs look like shit. Go back to Hutson-Dobson, the other two pairs can go fuck themselves. So stupid to handcuff your best defenseman just to make all 3 pairs straight garbage

  13. CarlSK777

Losing both games at home is just brutal. They need a win streak

  14. I’m going to try to not overreact. Of course a run of back to backs after the team has been sick.

But that was awful. Really not good at all.

  15. willard287

Goaltending has been mid but these types of games really show how bad our defense can be. Pretty much the reason we loss tonight. Also 0/4 on the PP is unacceptable.

A bit more puck luck would change the narrative but still. Our defense was terrible tonight.

  16. Komania

We need to fire Robidas. Our defensive play has been terrible all season. I don’t know if it’s the system itself or his teaching methods, but if it doesn’t work with our personnel you need to adapt

  17. Spotlightss

Guhle is horrible…wtf happened to him?

  18. Karrin-madhe

Our defense, primarily Matheson, Guhle, Carrier are playing us out of a playoff spot.

Robidas clearly isn’t cut out for his job, and Marty needs to wake the fuck up and come up with some solution before they throw the season.

  19. CocoKing02

Man we really need a strong defensive Dman and some good defensive depth players. A high flying offence cant do shit when our defense lets guys walk in all alone in front of our goalies. The problems we have are so glaring its insane

  20. Total-Use6220

Gotta be better defensively, way too passive and allowing them to create plays with so much room.

  21. MildlyResponsible

They didn’t really look interesting in winning most of this game. That PP was disinterested. That defensive time with the EN was embarrassing. They need to get their heads in the game. This is the calm before the big storm coming with their schedule.

  22. Beepimaj3ep

Hutson and guhle need to never be on the ice together for the rest of this season. Msl and the coaching staff can look as frustrated as they want. They keep making these guys play their weak side, and its the same thing over and over.

  23. St Louis needs to stop fucking around with his Defense

Hutson needs to play on his natural side, he has been dog shit since he switched.

Reinbacher deserves a shot they need a reliable steady dman

  24. We walk out of this weekend with no points because our powerplay went 0/7

They just pass it around and don’t shoot.

They also hold the puck way too long, after every pass they wait for the opponents to shift and setup

We need to move the puck quickly and shoot while the defenders and goalie are moving from one side to the other

  25. T-d1zzle11

Guhle has been garbage, and honestly Hutson has been atrocious defensively the last few games as well. Not sure if it’s because he’s been playing with Guhle or what, but they have looked terrible in our zone. Defence in general has been trash tbh.

  26. PhilYuh

Anybody saying the Habs played bad this weekend didn’t watch the same games as me. They deserved at least 2 points if not 3 this weekend and ended with 0.
That’s hockey sometimes.. hit 3 posts today, missed a ton of chances and went 0/7 on the PP this weekend.
We’ve had some good luck early in the year namely in OT and winning a lot of tight 1 goal games.. this weekend we were unlucky.. it happens.
Anyone saying we’re missing the playoffs are fair weather garbage fans for praying on the teams downfall
Go look at the Minnesota Wild’s record last 2 games + today. It happens

  27. FamousLibrarian5573

Story of our losses this season. Nothing plays in our zone turn into chances that end in the net. All season long. Soft plays off the wall, blown assignments and lately guys just blowing the zone before we even have possession. Prongers criticism on HNIC was accurate. Run and gun hockey disappears this time of year. Take care of your own end and you’ll win hockey games

  28. StomachPlayful4004

With Dach out do we give Laine a chance?

  29. AmsroII

Sens beat both the Sharks and the Ducks back to back the same nights we lost back to back.

    Pain.

  30. BelialHabs

Guhle should be on the third pair and playing 12 minutes a night with the way he’s playing.

  31. Time_Zombie_4431

Wouldn’t be surprised or upset if we missed the playoffs.

We have a hell of a let more work to do with this roster before we are ready to compete. The defence alone is such a fucking huge issue. Reinbacher even if he panned out exactly like we all want him to isn’t even close to enough to fix this fucking mess.

  32. MaBoiiReddit

What would you guys do to fix our defense? Offensively, we’re one of the best teams in the league, yet quite the opposite defensively.

We have a young group so do you wait it out, be patient and let them learn as they play.
Do you make a coaching change(firing Robidas)?
Would you get rid of some players or bring in new ones?

    What’s the solution here?

  33. Mediocre_Truth4894

Our D sucks so bad. We cannot win like this and Fowler or Dobby can’t always save us. Guhle, Carrier and Matheson were horrible the whole game, most goals/ shots are on them. We need to put Hudson and Dobson back together asap. Also Xhekaj has been surprisingly not bad this game, I liked him with the second line.

  34. CartiNYeezyII

Some of the dmen lately have been horrible. No excuse at this point in the season.

  35. DecentClock9031

0-4 on PP. That was the reason.

  36. FamousLibrarian5573

Has anyone else been noticing our defence pinching way too much? Almost every rush coming back the Habs way it’s a dman and a forward back. Even in the neutral zone. These last couple games they seem to be all in full press on offence

  37. journeytodev

Hutson shouldn’t be on the right enough is enough.

  38. therealsparky13

Lost for words how horrible we played this weekend… could write a whole page of why this team will not succeed in the playoffs… theres so much to our game/team that is missing

  39. jomagnum

Im starting to believe more and more that our defensive problems is not so much a personnel issue (although our bottom 3 could be better for sure) but a system issue. Man on man defense is clearly not working, no matter the pairings. They’ll have to change our defensive system at some point because whatever is going on is not good enough.

  40. Last_Ad_6636

This team is not built for the playoffs…. they are punching above their weight and it shows that they are getting tired

  41. AngryAssyrian

If we can’t win against Boston and Detroit then there’s a real chance that this season is in danger of being lost.

  42. whogivesashirtdotca

Fuck sake, it sounds like Fowler’s crying in the postgame interview. Our two starting goalies are emotionally on edge.
