The plan is we have old and very young players and not many in between. As the mid 30s players are leaving the current 18/19 year olds will be ready to go. Eklund, Prokhorov, Eiserman, Poletin, Nelson etc. Ritchie is the only other young twenty something NHL ready.

I like the signing – he brings more then the stat sheets show. He plays hard almost every shift. Good 3rd/4th C. And what were you getting for him? A third rounder? I also like the Schenn trade – center depth is the key to winning (up the middle starting from the goalie), and he's got a gritty attitude. The pick is basically a high second, and who cares about the 3rd. This is the thing – it was media and fans who wanted to sell off and get youth (me included), but I dont recall Darche saying that? Maybe he did! ..I do remember a re-tool type of "going forward" plan – and his recent moves show this plan in action. Did he get younger, no – but he made the team a higher skill level to help incorporate the youth. Which is the next point, these moves past few weeks show us the youth isn't ready yet. In two years, forsure 3, will see some Ek, and Aitch, and Eiser. Lastly – I think they east is open. TB is the stiffest competition and they aren't the team they used to be, and the Sabres are hot. Schenn gives the Island lots of veteran depth, a playoff-cup winning savoy player. A guy who has been to the playoffs once in past 3 years – he's got lots of gas left in the tank. Dont be surprised if he gets hot when he arrives. Breathing new life into him being on a playoff team. Remember, he waved his claus to be here!

I’m glad they did. Since he came over from the Sens I loved him. He’s a perfect third line center that’s a great faceoff guy and gets some points in the meantime and plays a good 200 ft game. As far as the trade for Shenn I like it but not for the first rd pick although maybe that was because they picked up Drouins contract
Schenn brings leadership so maybe Anders is on his way out after the season.
these guys are to negative for me.We didn't give up much for Schenn and id rather have Pageau then trade him for picks,because what he brings to our team is very valuable and hard to replace

JPG is a STEAL AT UNDER 6M. I just don’t understand why this is such a doom gloom moment.
Drouin couldn’t get out of his own way. We dumped his salary, replace it with Schenn.
So we instantly get tougher and harder to play against
Will only lose a 30th pick Ish. A goalie prospect that has no future with us.
And a third round pick which is easily replaced.

Now Ritchie plays wing, decreases his responsibilities. Centers are a commodity.

One of the worst trade deadlines in NYI Islander history. I am stunned Darche blew it this bad. Already though Roy needed to be fired after this week. All the assets gone, too many contracts. How U improve roster now. Pain continues now for more years. Never won anything with 27 & 44.

What's confusing? It's obvious Ritchie isn't ready at center, so they keep JG. It's also obvious Drouin isn't the guy to unlock Barzal, so they dumped him and got Schenn. It's starting to look like Schaefer is the chemistry for Barzal. Considering how many minutes Schaefer plays, it wouldn't be hard to have them on the ice together.
The ONLY confusing thing is Darche trying to explain extending Pager now and making Lee wait until the offseason, as was the original plan for BOTH. Darche sounded like a guy who got caught stealing cookies and offered a flood of excuses / explanations.
We also don't know if Lee is playing hard-ball. Schen is Sutter like, so Im ok. Don't like 1st going. It's really our 2nd anyway…
No need to waste away more draft picks… 34yo, 28 points. We have our 1st, and then nothing until the 4th rd. I guess the retool is over. We have 1 star (2 if include Sorokin). All the top teams have 3 or 4 elite players. I just dont get these moves based off what Darache said when got the job.
The Isles are an org that signs their players for a year or 2 too long instead a year or 2 too short. Guys never leave. Brock forced his way out, or he'd be here too.
I think Schenn gives us toughness in the Middle, he's @ 54.2% in face-off wins which is better than Barzal {39.8} and Ritchie {36.4}. With Cizikas {53.5}, Horvat {56.5} and JGP {60.1} in face-off wins, I'm much more comfortable spreading out the face-offs and giving Cizikas and JGP a little more rest. Plus we got rid of Drouin, the extra pick in the third round was a small price to pay, I just wish they could have sneaked Engval in too.
