En tant que nouveau joueur de hockey, quel est le problème avec cet enfant ? L’éloge est-il justifié ? Est-ce qu’on en impose trop, trop vite, à ce gamin ?

Super high offensive upside and has been really successful at every level he’s played at. His older brother joined Montreal and immediately gave them a jumpstart. I think the praise is definitely deserved
Similar play style and statistics to his older brother Lane, who very quickly became a star d-man.
Cole has a better shot and and to my eyes plays with a little more edge so he could translate even better to the NHL.
He has crazy potential but it’s not a slam dunk just yet.
He was an alternate Captain for both Team USA at World Juniors and Boston U, he’s already faced plenty of pressure and excelled. He’s coming in at this point with the simple expectation of just learning the NHL game this year. They aren’t expecting him to immediately replace Carlson, or drag to the team to the playoffs.
The praise is certainly justified.
they do the same thing for any highly touted prospects/college kids going pro. Leonard exact same
Any idea on how is deployment is gonna be ?
He doesn’t need to be the next Mike Green. Just play a solid blue line and help the team out.
He’s been an absolute beast at the college and major junior level, plus his brother made the jump to being a high end pro incredibly quickly, so hopes are high.
It’s important to remember that defensemen usually take a while to adjust and heaping a bunch of expectations on a 20 year old kid can make life hard for him. If he struggles early, that’s normal. Give him time, and he should turn into a very impressive NHL player.
What exactly do you think “we” are placing on him?
The praise is justified, and we are also placing a bit too much on this kid.
Excited to see him in the NHL, but we shouldn’t expect him to be Norris level like is older brother right off the gate.
Learn the system, get a sense of the speed and physicality of the big league for a dozen games, get a summer to set things up in DC, have a training camp as an expected member of the top 6 and then we will get a sense of his abilities.
Some fans are putting him so high on a pedestal that there’s only going to be failure in their eyes. This fanbase is crazy sometimes.
The fans are excited because his brother is a star defensemen. .001% chance he ever approaches his brother obviously. We could be pleasantly surprised or he could look like Leonard did at end of last season. I’m expecting the latter.
The hype is real, this kid could be a game changer one day.
That said, we need to bring him in carefully and ensure he develops well. If he’s half the player his brother was in college (certainly seems that way) then he’ll be really good for us.
This season is already dead so really the next few weeks are all about seeing what he’s got and getting him acclimated to the NHL game. It’ll take a minute, but the expectations for him right now should just be looking for positive flashes
His offense capability is significant; his defense—by his own admission—needs work.
Crazy potential – but important to temper expectations right away. D is a harder position to translate from college to pros.
Yes. He is a defenseman that is fast and fantastic skater. And he also scores goals. Hutson brothers and Leonard are friends. He has been outstanding on the international stage as well.
He’ll be very good, but it’ll probably take him a year to fully adapt his game to the NHL level. Don’t come in expecting a Matthew Schaefer kind of rookie season.
Can someone explain to me how his contract works? How many games can he play before the first year is burned? What are the downsides of wasting a rookie year with only 15 games left? Why would it be worth it in his case?
I’m relatively new and trying to understand, but can’t see all the implications of him playing this season.
Yes the praise is justified and yes we will probably be a little justified at first,
He seems like a better version of his brother when he was that age. His brother is arguably a top 5 dman in the league on his second season
