  1. 1. Good

    2. I think letting Maccelli go would be a mistake. Hopefully whichever GM comes in is willing to give him a chance in a different system

  2. LibrarianOverall6159

So he’s getting canned once the season ends, I guess?

  3. NotThisTimeULA

Are they fucking dumb? Qualify him and trade him if you don’t want him. What the fuck is wrong with this organization and asset management.

Not only that but he has genuinely been performing well since his 9 game scratch.

  4. james-HIMself

Maccelli has been one of our best players since December. But sure. Fuck up another player we gave zero chance instead to play domi

  5. GettingBlaisedd

He’s gonna go walk and get 55 pts somewhere else. So annoying. Our coach has destroyed a bunch of our players and their value.

  6. Soggy_Specific4093

Do we really believe that the Leafs have come to a final decision on Maccelli’s qualifying offer on March 16th when it’s not due until June 30th?

Even if they are leaning towards not giving him it I doubt it’s completely set in stone right now and there is still time leading up to the draft to trade him if they really don’t want to keep him. (Also if Treliving is getting fired like they are implying it’s the new GM’s decision then)

And in case anyone doesn’t know his qualifying offer starts at 4.11 million.

  7. 8J-QgvCfkqllcg

Given number 1 to be true, who is making the call on number 2?

  8. commanderr01

Nah u gotta qualify him at the least…

  9. Cozy-Keys

How about we qualify Maccelli and send Domi to the moon instead?

  10. sometimenotsmellgood

What the fuck is up with this organization’s obsession with letting assets go for nothing?

  11. IAmTheBredman

What is the point in spending a 3rd on a guy, having him play all year amd thrn letting him walk for nothing? Hes young and skilled and you own his rights. Qualify him and either play him or trade him. Stop wasting assets for no reason

  12. Traveuse

Why would Maccelli have no future here if the guy making that decision has no future here? Like, wtf we spent a 3rd on this guy, and we’re going to let him walk just to overpay some ufa? Why does nothing the Leafs do make any sense

  13. I’m surprised so many people in here think Maccelli is a $4M player.

  14. LongjumpingDiver8773

Maccelli is good but idk I can’t really get too worked up over potentially letting him go. He’s a complimentary piece. He was also brought in specifically by Treliving so I’m fine with a new GM having as clean a slate as possible with few Treliving holdovers.

  15. twofactorial

Treliving needs to be canned yesterday

this guy destroys everything he touches

  16. Vi11agio-Xbox

Guy is still pretty young and is showing he can play. He’s started scoring, but I also seen him making better plays off the puck too. He’s essentially morphing into another Robertson. Maybe, just maybe we should develop those two further instead of wasting away?! Just my thoughts as somebody with no background in sports management

  17. JimNillTML

Maccelli seemed to turn his game around quite quickly. He’s over 0.5ppg with some great synergy on our ass power play.

Losing him for nothing will be bonkers beyond belief.

Brad has pooerer asset management than an old person who continuously sends visa gift cards to a Nigerian prince in crisis.

  18. Many_Werewolf_7271

Just embarrassing stuff. No idea why we aren’t even qualifying then trading Maccelli after since we hate the guy. Have we learned nothing about asset management?

  19. GritGrinder

If they do nothing and let macceilli walk Brad better be fucking fired

  20. JeffBroccoli

WHO is playing for this team next season that means we can just let a 40 point depth winger walk for nothing?

  21. Showtime98

That’s too bad on Maccelli I liked him honestly, feel like he would provide more on a puck movement based system

  22. WallopJones

You’re out of your mind if you want Maccelli back on this team next year

  24. ChairRip7

I don’t think he is a $4M player but we need to remember that’s kinda like a $3.25M player a couple years ago. He’s not far off. I would qualify him and see if he picks up in a new environment and move him next season for a return. Too many lost assets the last few years.

As for Tre, I think of Dubas’ last season on his deal where he traded a bunch of futures for one series win, or the same thing with Shanny last year. I get that we don’t want lame ducks in charge.

  25. wohwonk

That’s just it they need more $5 million players instead of $13 million players

  26. Darkhorse089

Maccelli is another swing and a miss. Can spend the 4+M better elsewhere. No team is paying assets unless some new bonehead organization hires Brad Treliving.

  27. Adept-Donut-4229

Gonna be the slowest team in the league soon…

  28. Potential_Amoeba_404

Does unqualifying Macceli mean that he’s going to leave as a free agent? If you don’t plan to keep him why don’t you trade him in the offseason, at least get some assets back. Like wasn’t Boston interested in him during the trade deadline?

  29. No_Astronomer_8576

How in the fuck are we coming to the conclusion Matias has no future here?

I’m not ready. I’m not ready to go back to the pre-shanny era 😭

  30. aporter0509

They don’t need to qualify him at that amount because nobody else will pay him that either. They can offer him a multi year contract at a lower amount if they want to keep him.

  31. SadimHusum

Point #2 has no basis in reality if there’s new management on the way in, unless Pelley himself told the kid to go fuck himself lol

his qualifying offer would probably be at exact market value for a productive middle-6 wing, I don’t really see why you wouldn’t do it then look for a trade if he’s gonna price himself out by the end of next year

This info coming out now is really bad though, hard to imagine his camp is thrilled about such finality in a statement and the next guy is gonna have to do damage control if he’s actually disgruntled by it – wildly unprofessional from the org

  32. oatmealleafer

A team that is starved for depth scoring year after year not qualifying it’s 5th highest point scorer.

Ah well, this is the same team that didn’t qualify Pontus Holmberg who is now playing 14 min a game with the best team in the East. And let David Kampf walk, who was later flipped for a pick at the deadline while we were saddled with useless Calle Jarnkrok who nobody wanted for free.

  33. Prof_Scott_Steiner

Mmmmmm it’s so warm around the draft pick bonfire. Who wants s’mores?

  34. TrueNorthStrong73

Both is what’s best for business! Let them both go!

  35. mantis_tobboggann

Let’s watch them repeat Holmberg where he walks for nothing and is replaced by a guy that is paid significantly more, is less productive and costs a pick to acquire (Joshua)

  36. SeveralSpeed

This is all just opinion, completely unconfirmed. Mirtle mentions that he believes Maccelli isn’t the kind of player the Leafs need, but he isn’t GM of the leafs. This is all noise.

  37. eped123

Leafs in 2067!!! Centennial cup anniversary champs!!!  Go leafs!!!

We need more  « no move contracts »  like we need more cowbell !!!!

  38. zombiej

One of the few bright spots this season despite Berube doing his best to ruin him. Sure, yeah, just let him walk. Idiots.

  39. ilovetrouble66

This is so stupid. Brainless asset management. Even if you don’t think he has a future here the guy can produce and has proven it. Trade him. I don’t know wtf is going on with the leafs
