Dave Feschuk : Les joueurs de la LNH ont de la chance que Toronto se soucie autant du hockey. Certains Leafs ne peuvent tout simplement pas supporter la pression

To quote tennis legend Billie Jean King, pressure is a privilege.

The message is true. But I just hate the messenger.

  3. thewolfshead

True but also funny because a good portion of sports reporters melt down the second anyone criticizes them online.

  4. BiggityShwiggity

Only in hockey do players complain that the fans care. Imagine this in any other sport? lol.

  5. If at first you don’t succeed keep doing the same shit over and over again. The Toronto market is a fishbowl and the Toronto media make it worse, I’ve seen this personally since like 2002.

Kawhi Leonard lived in a five star hotel room for 6 months. His room steward was tipped more than David Kampf earned total.

Oh lord. I don’t have the Star subscription.

But is the media justifying their part in the fishbowl/created controversy department, again? Because yes, you can talk all day about how it’s a player’s job to deal with distractions, but yes, it’s also easier to do your job without distractions.

And, as a follow up, yes it’s good for the NHL to have a team in Toronto, in general. But can we at least agree in a capped league, the players in Toronto don’t necessarily reap extra benefits from playing in Toronto, outside of maybe some endorsements? Maybe?

Not to defend the media, but it is quite pathetic how much hockey players specifically complain about Toronto. U don’t hear this in any other sport. Players want to play in big markets with large fan bases. It’s a unique hockey player thing. Pay me millions of dollars but leave me alone at the same time.

The Leafs can’t handle the pressure of playing in Toronto?

What a daring and inspired contribution to hockey discourse!

  10. conjectureandhearsay

Let’s keep in mind that the Toronto leafs media likes to think of itself as all-powerful.

You know who keeps talking about Toronto leafs media pressure even though the topic is pathetic as an explanation for losing? The Toronto leafs media.

What no one is talking about here and seem to forget. What if the teams that were constructed and made deep playoff runs and had games where they put it all on the ice and not look like they have up.

The fans that cared so much would idolize the team, you’d still get the randoms that will still complain but I bet you most of the city would be fucking ecstatic that the team can push it to another level and show some heart and not have the body language like it’s all over.

The players are getting paid top of the league type of money and the fans have been backing them up still to this day. Hockey is king in Toronto and if they were to put up the same production as their salaries dictate. It’d be a different tune.

I think the media creates more pressure than the fans and I also think the media overblows the pressure. Like the quotes from Bobby after he left, he wasn’t saying it was unbearable pressure that made it impossible to play in toronto…he said ya there’s pressure but he also said he loved playing in toronto but people took that and were like see the players tell you there’s too much pressure.

    insert the
« heartbreaking: worst person you know made a good point » onion meme here.

  14. egamcra

We really up upvoting guys like Steve Simmons and Dave Feschuk?

  15. lylelanley-

Wow Dave Feschuk? Why have I not heard that name in 100 years

  16. WokePredator

You idiots use « pressure » when the actual issue is just « constant annoying attention and harassment. »

  17. Mashdrop

Can anybody point me to an example of a Leafs player complaining about the pressure? Why haven’t I seen a player demand a trade or say they won’t re-sign because of the pressure in Toronto? I’ve seen people (like Bobby McMann recently) *acknowledge* there’s pressure without saying it’s overwhelming.

Everything ive seen has always come from the media or online comments as rage bait to farm engagement, theres such a lack of media literacy these days.
