Rantanen was the key, I dont know why they dont play same system as last year that u have snipers on both sides so makar can make plays for either sides Necas is just swirling around there waiting to Mackinnon to make plays but without that second sniper there is just Mackinnon holding the puck too long and other teams knows that so take time and space from him and Well we have seen results.
The truth is Mackinnon is a powerful player not a "smart" one. Giving him extra time doesn't improve his decision making. He's at his best when he plays off of his instincts. When the game slows down he is way less effective. This is what truly separates Mcdavid from him. They are both virtually unstoppable in a high paced game but Mcdavid is also unmatched when the game slows down.
They don't have someone like McDavid pointguarding the process. MacKinnon doesn't hold up to that.
