Could you maybe post what the comments were or a link to the interview?

I hate our fan base. So many insane takes being thrown around.

  3. Luffy_party

They are a losing team of course there’s issues.

  4. PrestigiousWelder190

Just delete the post. They played their best game in months after he got hurt. The Penguins have a great record without Crosby, same as the Avalanche without Mack. The sample sizes are too small for it to matter. Also Mcmann never sad anything you’re insinuating

I think taking captaincy from Tavares was the worst move the Leafs made (besides the Minten trade that will haunt me forever). I know Tavares doesn’t seem to actually care, because he is a true captain and wants the team to thrive, but it felt like a cheap rebrand of the same team and added even more pressure to our current captain.

Huh? Where did Bobby say there were locker room issues? I didn’t see that. Ontop of that, Laughton came out and defended the locker room. How much weight do you give his opinion?

You realize leafs also had a better record without Marner until he was gone for good.

When other teams play well without their captain and best player: « Wow, the team rallies around their injured leader. They play for each other »

When our team plays well without their captain and best player: « Wow, they must hate him. Locker room cancer. »

It’s not just this time, people have been trotting out this narrative for years when Matthews gets hurt.

I’m unsubscribing from this sub y’all are fucking so dumb

  9. GritGrinder

so you think the players dont want matthews to be captain, and prefer when hes not around.

    based on..

  10. XPhazeX

I heard Matthews is actually the Loch Ness Monster

  11. berniemacattacks

    I think that’s a stretch.

Also post the source, otherwise this is just another toxic fan theory.

This is insane, were you at the game? The tv absolutely reacted. They didn’t, in the moment, beat the tar out of gudas. When it happened everything stopped, then the refs were there before anything could happen. After it happened the leafs were throwing toms of huge hits, multiple fights after including Cowen, they won the game. After the game Reilly took accountability and apologized.

Team USA made special note to mention what a leader and a stud Matthews is.

The leafs are better without him? Do you honestly think the leafs would have had the same record without Matthews?

The leafs were going to be better without Marner too.

So many sports fans really are like 11 year old girls with the gossip and fan fiction.

Like really, what inspired you to make a whole ass post with this inane showerthought nonsense.

Wait a bottom 10 ream has issues beyond their dogshit performance on the ice? Also saw that article where Scott Laughton said it snowed in January in Toronto. I was amazed to hear it from him as my eyes and decades on this planet in Toronto was not enough for me to make that observation.

What did McMann say or imply?

Just as a general comment, I hardly think Matthews is some locker room cancer. He seems like a nice guy who is generally well respected.

His Olympic teammates showed a lot of respect for him and tried to express that to the media.

People want him to be this passionate, emotional leader like Dougie or Wendel from 1993. And that he is not.

As a speculative counterexample, when they decided to make him the captain, John Tavares seemed accepting and supportive of the move. Tavares is well known for his high level of sportsmanship and leading by example.

We’ll never know for sure, but Tavares seems to have a high level of respect for Matthews. And if Matthews were a locker room problem, I hardly think that Tavares would show as much outward support for him as he has.

  16. Big_Albatross_3050

Miniscule sample size. We used the same argument with Marner since the record was so good without him and now we are seeing what no Marner for an entire season does to this team

  17. UncleTrapspringer

Bobby McMann did not hint at locker room issues with the Leafs.

The « Leafs are better without Matthews » takes are massively overblown.

Leafs records since Matthews joined the team:

With him in the lineup: 389-215-85 for a 62.6% points percentage over 689 games. This is a 82 game point pace of 102.6 points.

Without him in the lineup: 47-26-5 for a 63.5% points percentage over 78 games. This is a 82 game point pace of 104 points.

So really we are talking about a 1.4 point difference (trivial and due to standard variance) – but one sample size is 689 games (equivalent to 8.4 NHL seasons) vs. 78 games (less than 1 full season).

I don’t think there is sufficient data here to back up that take.

  19. No-Trust-8749

If you actually play the game you take on who ever does this to your captain, no matter what bs chatter is going on in the dressing room, so enough with this shit already. I’ve seen Matthew’s throw body checks and back check like the best of them, ya he’s playing injured , not sure what the real reason is behind his lacklustre play of late.
Look at Willy’s play, he’s afraid to get touched doesn’t even roll off in the corner he just avoids it, his back check… well he doesn’t really fkn do that now does he. I’m just tired of this TO bs banter, if your a fan then be on their side even when they suck.

  20. nintendoleafsfan

I truly believe this team gets comfortable and stuck in there ways so when a key player is out it gives a roster a jolt of energy. We won all 6 games when reilly was suspended and have a winning record when marner and matthews wouldnt play, we’re definitely not a better team without them. So im not reading into them playing better after matthews injury

  21. dicky72

this is all quotes from an athletic article commented on by another reporter. everything taken out of context. he said nothing about the room or matthews.

he (paraphrased) said that when things started going bad this year and spiraling out of control, people started trying to play outside their game and doing too much and it backfired.

    thats all he said.

  22. DeanersLastWeekend

Nowhere in the article does he suggest there’s locker room issues. Let’s stop trying to parse every single word former players say to try and fit your own pre-conceived narrative.

  23. Available_Summer_418

Sucking off “Moon boy” 😂. What a crazy concept that fans would defend the captain and greatest goal scorer in team history. Wild!
