Pretty standard, it was an MCL tear, if he wants to compete at a high level that has to be fixed
Some people heal MCL tears through rehabbing but I guess for professional sports it’s surgery especially if another ligament is involved. I hope this doesn’t elongate the recovery.

4 to 6 weeks recovery plus rehab. No distractions, no excuses over the summer. He should be in the best shape of his life by next season, for once.
