Trade overall I give a slight edge to the flames because of the first round pick, but the direct swap for Tkachuk …..I think the panthers get the W in that deal. You basically get a guy younger and who avgs around the same amount of points as Huberdeau. And to be honest with you ….I think Huberdeau has attitude problems. Long-term wise this is a W for the Panthers.

Weegar and huberdeau are both ufas after this season. They are not worth as much as you think compared to a young Tkachuk willing to sign an 8 year deal that carries throughout all of his prime years. The big thing hampering Florida is bobs contract and I don't know how on earth they are going to get someone to take that on without multiple 1st rounders.
I'm shocked. Never thought Tkachuk will be taking his talents to South Beach a.k.a Sunrise. Pretty cool. We will be seeing his dad in the stands quite a lot next season and the 6 seasons afterward. 🙂🏒🐯

Cheers from Calgary. Congrats on winning the Tkachuk lottery. As a Flames fan , it’s frustrating that another star player didn’t want to play here due to high taxes , too much scrutiny by fans and media , cold winter weather , and a lot of long flights for away games. Calgary is consistently voted one of the top ten cities in the world to live , but there are too many reasons why that doesn’t matter to hockey players … especially star players who are in high demand. I doubt Huberdeau and Weegar will be any different. Unless I missed it , neither one of them have said anything publicly about being traded to Calgary or expressed any excitement about coming here. I doubt we’ll lock either one of them up long term. At least they’re good assets we can use to trade for either draft picks (or prospects who aren’t getting a fair shake with their current team) … as that’s about the only thing we get here , along with second tier star players wanting to maximize their earning potential by coming to a team desperate for some talent (and getting paid more than they’re worth in the process). Sorry for the rant from a long frustrated Calgary fan. You’re getting the complete package in Tkachuk. Was hoping we’d have the pleasure of watching him for a long time here. Wasn’t surprised at all that didn’t end up being the case.

As a Lightning fan…I sympathize and understand what Panther Fan is going through right now. Fans of other teams RARELY understand the future cap implications/considerations a team that isn't their own, is factoring in any moves they make. Personally, I think the Panthers came out well, in this trade. They GAINED cost certainty with Tkachuk and shed UNCERTAINTY by trading Huberdeau and Weeger. Personally, I think Weeger is the bigger loss but hardly irreplaceable. I felt much the same about the Lightning losing Palat. And IF the Flames don't re-sign either player? What did they really gain?

I'm not a fan of either team but I'm blown away that Calgary got a boatload for Chucky. I don't know much about Huberdeau but I'd guess he has waayyy more character than Matthew Tkachuck. I think Florida just shot themselves in the foot. If I'm Huberdeau, I'm not happy right now.
