Oilers are outta gas (pun intended), played just as much hockey as Florida the last 2 seasons. It takes its toll.
Add in the Olympics this year, and yeah, folks are tired. Wouldn't blame it on the coach so much.
Since FLA ain't making the playoffs this year without a borderline miracle, it would only be fitting to see the Oilers sit it out as well.
McDavid needs to start playing like he's part of a team, he clearly doesn't have the capability to produce solo on the level he used to anymore. I'd argue we lost that game primarily because he was horrible by trying to do too much on his own.
They should be tweaking and stabilizing what they have over bring in different players and juggling them all around. Everyone knows once the playoffs hit McDavid will be shut down a lot and the other lines got to make things happen. Like whichever Panther chirped to them last year, Edmonton got beat by a team. The Oilers are doing the right thing focusing on D so they can play multiple styles. A synced team will beat a unsynced team of a few amazing players most of the time. A synced team with good played is almost unstoppable. Last year McDavid mentioned (at the end) how they keep doing the same thing over and over and failing, which showed a lack of couching and how they are a one trick pony…and everyone knows the trick and now the pony is missing a leg.

In my opinion, Knoblauch isn't a great coach. But who else are you going to get?
Most people are gonna blend the lines, put McDrai together, and bend to McDavid and Draisaitl's demands. (Because telling them no is a tough game.)
Or god forbid, you're going to go out and get someone like DeBoer, who throws good goalies under the bus.
It's just so much more complicated than "Fire Knoblauch", or some of the other talking points ("Sit nurse", "Call up Ike Howard", "Fire Bowman". Etc.)
I totally agree with your "I expect better", but better has to come from everyone. There is no secret sauce to get success out of this team. The secret sauce has to come from inside. Like Corey Perry's game 4 locker room speech.

Knob’s super power was his “adjustments.” That’s all he has/had. When things break down, it’s his only go-to. He’s basically mashing the adjustments button now. There are no tactics. No answer to the Florida forecheck despite being owned by it for more than 2 years now. No learning/adapting. McDavid knows it as well, hence the “banging our heads against the wall” and “rehearsed” comments. Bringing back Coffey was a public acknowledgment of a coaching issue. The only people defending him are the “we can’t fire another coach” people. I don’t see anyone actually claiming he does anything well. They won’t do it because, with his extension, it will make them look stupid. That tells you everything you need to know.

this team is cooked. They needed to fire this coach earlier into the season. Too late now to salvage it. Teams looks lost, unprepared, predictable, lifeless, flat, lame. Ice time distribution and line changes make zero sense. 97 is so gone once his contact is up and no one can say anything because he has been extremely patient with this joke of a management

The most important words "full of great players", well for the previous two years the Oil was on that path, otherwise how else do you get to the final two years in a row? However with Cap issues and bad decisions with contract extensions they have regressed significantly this year. They will make the playoffs but likely not get past first round. Where is the positive in all of this? Well they still have managed to be near the top of the division, unlike the crashes we have seen with otherCanadian teams like Canucks or Jets. Next year with Knobs likely gone and more cap space they will have a new opportunity to get back to the 'Dance'.
I think the motivation argument is stupid. You spent half the video explaining how Knob prevented the team from building chemistry and used poor tactics, then turned around and blamed it on motivation. This team was clearly outcoached. The fight they showed makes it clear it's not a motivation issue

McDavid is a scrub that is a center-man that doesnt backcheck and actually made nugent hopkins play center in the defensive zone while he circles high by the blue-line. Mcdavid was -3 last night with a goal because of his selfishness……

The coaching is always easy to criticize for a team's failure. In today's hockey establishment, I find it funny that the performance of professional hockey players, many of which have played at the highest levels throughout their development years, often becomes the sole responsibility of a coach that is paid far less than most players on the team. I guess I take exception to always blaming the coach when most players nowadays don't seem to understand how to play basic defense (all players included), skills they should have learned by the time they were 12 years old. Instead they stand around and puck watch like 8 year old community league players. Ridiculous!
Too much mixing of lines? Thank a couple of decades of mismanagement of this team for that. There's little depth to support McD and Drai so the coaches are left double and triple shifting them at times to try to spark offense. But what real choice or options do the coaches have?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not wiping Knoblauch's slate clean here. Some of his decisions are questionable at times and at best. But team management needs to be better going forward and the players need to be more accountable too…to each other, to the team and, especially, to the fans.
As for the comment that Knoblauch should be able to coach player's behaviors and bad habits out of them…good luck with that! By the time most of today's players hit the big leagues, they are what they are. And for elite talent that has been coddled throughout their development into the NHL, well, they often become the nuts that actually run the asylums in today's NHL.

The coach should be fired but won’t untill the offseason. It’s too late to fire the coach since we don’t have any in house option and from what I heard it won’t happen. I think we have to the realization that it won’t happen untill the summer.
I'm not even an Oilers fan but I come to suggest if ya'll want a structure call Pete DeBoer if Knobs is on his way out. Prolly one of the better coaches available. Or try someone brand new instead of recycling the same coaches around the league.

Knob is frantically trying to 'stumble' on some line that works, and he is transmitting that chaos to every single player. Has been for a while now and Bowman is holding unto it, just like to Jarry, to not admit he's made tones of poor choices. Fact is, Katz should tabula-rassa wipe from Jackson down as quickly as possible and salvage this season if possible. Don't see the Oilers as-is keeping pace with any of the followers. Draisaitl injury only gives them a bubble of air to survive or justify this f-ed up season.
