I’ve already prepared myself that with Canuck Luck we’ll be picking 3rd. Only 10 times in the past 26 years as the last place team actually picked first. And that from when a lot of those drafts the rules were different and there were two less teams.

I understand why draft lottery rules exist to stop teams from openly tanking but last place or last place by a wide enough margin of points should guaranteed you get 1st or 2nd

I am really not a huge conspiracy guy, but the more that leaks out about David Stern (Bettman’s former boss and mentor), the more I do think Commissioners may have used these things to boost markets and in-turn revenue.
4-5 players have come out in the NBA (Shaq and LeBron most notably) that they were tipped off of where they were going before the actual lottery. Not to mention the frozen envelope theory and a few biographies that stated Stern helped facilitate the Kobe trade from Charlotte to LA at the 96 NBA draft.
