How many coaches….at what point is it not the coaches…… has anyone checked the water??
Mike Keenan is available, js.
Oilers need a Tortorella in their life…. bring some freaking emotion to the bench
He's gonna leave. You're right. 😅
McDavid walked it back a lot in his most recent comments. It was never intended as a criticism of Knoblauch. He didnt doesnt have to walk it back
Knoblauch is our coach and it ain't changing.
Knob reminds me oh Jay, right before he got fired, right now.
Welp there you have it folks
Fire everybody on the Oilers management team including Jeff Jackson Stan Bowman n Kris Knoblauch they all suck
Oh hea leavin….
regardless.
Theres a solid argument to be made for and against firing Knob. Got a feeling hes gone if they dont at least make the conference finals though
Idk man, judging by his tone McDavid sounds defeated in that interview
I've been an oiler fan since 1979 and have never seen us go through so many coaches in general managers in the history as we have lately we keep changing coaches and getting the same result so maybe therefore the GM screw up with goaltending should be considered one of the main things maybe he's the one that's got to go
It's chance generation that frustrates to watch. We don't hammer shots from the point enough, we don't have a near enough tips and second bounces. We don't scrum the wall and break horizontal passes through the neutral zone and we don't drop pass for breakouts from our own D zone exits. Really wish we could see Nurse on the RD side because his backhand is better than his forehand. He's better off hacking puck to space
The whole Oilers management team should just own up to there mistakes and be adults about everything the whole Oilers management team sucks especially Jeff Jackson Stan Bowman n Kris Knoblauch
McDavid has seen how a winning coach coaches, Cooper coached him on team Canada. I’m sure that gave him some insight .
If you say “I don’t know what happened to the culture, it just disappeared”, you never had it and you’re only further proving that to be true if you’re pointing to 41yr old Corey Perry not taking minimum as a reason it “just disappeared”
Ever since Hall won his Hart you’ve been evaluating way too much based on results and not enough based on process, which climaxed when you did Jay Woodcroft dirty as a scapegoat for “not having any championship-winning culture” to not only be replaced by Knoblach who was McDavid’s Coach in Junior, but reward him with a contract extension because he went to back to back cup finals not because of what he was actually doing systematically or developmentally. Since Mike Smith retired you’ve been trying to find just competence at goalie while having to throw Hail Mary’s for Tyson Barrie to be the blueline savior which leads to Nurse’s contract extension and worrying about how bad it looks to fail to replace Eberle and Hall while drafting Jessie Pulijarvi which leads to giving Evander Kane all the credit in his first year upon being acquired to make a run to the finals, just to tear him down and scapegoat him before his second year was even over while depending on AARP Corey Perry to give you jump as a finisher.
All of that got put on Woodcroft so you could feel like it all got washed away when you replaced him with his assistant before going to the finals. Again, evaluating everything based on the end result rather than the process in which you took to getting those results. If you truly believed Woodcroft wasn’t the guy and was doing such a poor job, then have the balls to conduct a search and interviewing cycle after the season whether you miss the playoffs or win the Stanley Cup, or this is the inevitable loop you will find yourself in.
Knoblach got you to the SC final, twice! The real issue is the players coming and going and the leadership of McDavid. He's using his greatest skills and confusing it with leadership. Also, the GM is to be questioned. Are the roster players really winners? Winning clubs have a GM who gets the right players, the coach is the culture setter, and your captain and alternates are the glue that keeps the players together!
During his first two seasons, every time Knob did the line blender he got amazing results. He seemed to be able to press the right buttons exactly at the right time. This year, none of it has worked. It has just led to constant chaos. All the personnel changes this year have been too much for Knob's abilities to compensate.
THE OILERS ARE A DUMPSTER FIRE,, HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT, AND THE WORST GOALIES IN THE NHL.. THE WHOLE ORGANIZATION IS A TRAIN WRECK,,
Media is HORRIBLE.
Incredible how childish our society has become. Continuity wins you cups, you are comparing a three-year coach to Cooper. Media will be the reason McDavid leaves not coaching, goaltending, or the weather.
McDavid is not happy about loosing his point lead to Kucherov. It added to his recent frustrations.
Mcdavid to Colorado.also, i think he's still mad about losing at the Olympics.
McDavid can't pull a disappearing act in big cup. Finals games and call anyone out …. Leon too … Two years ago in that game 7 if 29 and 97 woulda just pulled a Jordan instead of a LeBron they'd have a cup
I use to praise knobs for his composure but that now looks like a huge lack of emotion and passion
It's clear that Florida teams are oiler kryptonite….maybe living in tropical type weather just makes you play better than living in our harsh environment, maybe
No the oilers are the problem. They chase the puck in their own end instead of taking the man off the puck. They need to be tougher along the boards. And being confident with the puck is also a good thing. They need to want to win. Be the first to get the first goal and then don’t stop. Don’t fall asleep on the ice and give the other team a chance.
Peter deBore
Oilers need a scout who can find a hot goalie!
All those years of tanking to get McD are wasted if we can’t get a goalie and coach
The difference is, The Support Cast changes every year & not everyone in Edmonton wants to stay in Edmonton.
I can understand McDavid frustration. BUT, a big But, Is he the one which want Knoblauch there to replace woodcraft ? Also the management sucks. let all the young and talent player go replace with what ? The only good traded sign after 2022 is Ekholm. Terrible trade and signing kill this team to be a cup contender.
We sensed Gulluvson to Dallas they are killing it.
We keep Knob and we are being killed.
Connor McDavid has 115 points and he is +8….. +8! and he is on the ice for almost half of every game. He is as much of the problem as anything and leaving, instead of fixing the gigantic holes in his game would be so lame.
Back to back finals runs, the GM is hurting the team with terrible moves… The man speaking here has been VERY QUIET in the big games 7s right? It seems like there is a lot to unpack. FWIW Game 7, 2024…. 0s across the board for 97 and 29 (one point combined in game 6 and 7 that series) and this was followed up in 2025 with 0s in game 6.
Now look, I get these guys have put up big numbers in the playoffs… BUT… if we remove Bowman’s terrible decisions and just look at the coaching… So they dumped Woodcroft for Knobloch, McDavids guy, they go to back to back finals and in the last game of each series, the two biggest names were not on the score sheet. The Oilers have been a little top heavy and ya, I get you need to have the depth to help out when those two go quiet… it does stand out in a moment like this.
I assume a Deboer type is probably on deck here and I do appreciate finding the right voice but there has been a new coach every 2 seasons on average for this team in the McDavid era… Is it really the coaches at this point?
Maybe it is not all the coaches that the Oiler have fired. #97 is the problem. Connors Oilers, Mc David's Oilers McDavid, McDavid, McDavid. How many other team have one the cup without # 97. I think he is the problem as the Oilers have no team identity with # 97. After seeing him cry when they lost in the finals I knew that her was the problem. When a player with a net worth like # 97cried because he didn't win a trophy I new he was a premadonna . The Captain should be RNJ. Trade # 97 and see what you can get for him. With # 97 the Oilers will never have a culture or identity.
They are 6 games over 500, and the guy says they have to win 4 in a row to have more wins than losses this year? I see you two rode on the short buses!
Remember when tampa went to final and confrence finals back to back years then missed the playoffs. Then came storming back to confrence finals and two cups in 3 of 4 years. This year is a drag on this team mentally it shows in how they've played and in their answers. I'm not going to say culture is lost because of it, not unitl next season and we see what they look like. Sometimes you need a reset and this year feels like no matter what they do they cannot really step forward and it's going to be that reset.
