It's the front office that's the problem. Matthews was supposed to be elite. He was elite…in the REGULAR SEASON. Now Marner's gone and, surprise, the team cant score for crap. Matthews has fallen off a cliff, everyone else quit trying, and Carlo is a traffic cone. What do you expect Berube to do? No coach is going to motivate or lead this garbage team to relevance, and this is coming from someone who wants to see them succeed. Enough of the coaching merry-go-round.

Can’t lose what you never had….its clear Nylander Tavares Reilly and Matthews are content with collecting their paychecks in exchange for empty stats in the regular season
The leafs are a joke and have been for decades and should be sold to someone that will actually try to win not just rob fans blind
Forget a retool, This team needs a full rebuild. The leadership on this team has demonstrated a constant lack of heart, no matter who’s coaching them.
No one sticking for Matthews was the final straw, I’ve seen more heart from house league teams.
We need Pronger. That guy is the opposite of lazy. Give him the keys as the GM.

Not the coach. Treliving went out and got a bunch of guys who don’t play Bérubé style hockey.
Berube lost control the Final 4 games against Florida with the big 4 dropping turds each game. It carried over to the current season when healthy they went 9-11 the first 20 games. Berube is coaching an Uncoachable team. He said a few days ago that many of the last Cup winners were dump it in and heavy forecheck teams and unfortunately for him the softies he has up front aint those type of players. You still have 4 Dubas players on that team and you’ll never win with them even though Tavares signed cheap and is at least trying at his age.
If he's lost control he should be fired, if he hasn't lost control, he should be fired.
He’s ruining knies by playing him too much they need to play mostly young guys

I’m not a hockey player, but I’ve worked at some places and I’ve gone to dinners with coworkers cause I actually enjoyed hanging with them. Now obviously I know they can only show so much in an episode, but the fact how they didn’t even show a segment of him hanging out with anyone else on the team, I think that shows how the team consists of players playing on a singular individual level and not as a unit
Never had control. The players were never willing to play the style of hockey that the leaf's leadership wants to be played now. They have players who are allergic to throwing an aggressive body check. Comes down to they see what style wins the cup and they just do not have them it is that simple.
Has Berube ever had control of the Leafs? Even last season? I'd say…. NOT even close. Time for a HC change.
yeah guys,,but what if what the coach is saying is true…or..what if the players have no response to whatever you say…they have quit ! coach's can talk till they are blue in the face, but bad attitude wont listen. also teams not used to losing wont listen to anybody.

This team will never succeed with Matthews, Nylander, JT and Reilly on it. As long as one of them and their heartless, emotionless, lack of team unity atmosphere, the leafs have no chance of success. Every tough guy the leafs have brought in over the past 10 yrs has quit on this team. They got tired of trying to be a one man army.
I think every coach benefits from elite goaltending. Berube got lightning in a bottle and good for him. But he’ll never lead another team to a Stanley cup. He’s a pretty mid coach. Never liked him after his comments about Naz and the Binnington incident. Sorry leafs nation had to suffer through that guy. I bet Peter Deboer could squeeze some playoffs out of this team. Before.. well ya know.
With due respect, "team culture" doesn't come from coaching, management or corporation. It's solely the guys in the dressing room who create it. Otherwise Chicago, LA, Boston would still have it and be good teams.

I don't know, just keep up the constant scrutiny of your team which seems to always be part of the reason players aren't happy playing there.

How many General Managers, coaches and executives have the leafs been thru in the last decade, well playing the same core group of guys (minus Marner this season)
Yet, somehow it's always the Coaches, Managers etc who get let go.
Definition of insanity is listening to guys (who never played at any level) and thinking they somehow know better.

berube is right, one pp goal shouldn't deflate a team. the leafs have had their spirit thoroughly broken this year and it's not even fun to watch as a hater anymore

Can't you be both deflated and a cop out? I can see being deflated and copping out too early. Like Craig said, you get scored on but you get it back in the next shift or period. Craig might not be a TO coach and so the club needs to pull their thumbs out and retool.
It comes down to the oldest adage… Go out and win every shift.
