  1. SJS and CHI had 1st overall picks in Celebrini and Bedard. In their ass years, Detroit missed out on the lottery each year – even moving down the year they were last in the league. There are no superstars on Detroit, no one who is elite. Larkin is a 2C on a contender; Detroit is so thin down the middle Larkin looks like a true 1C.

I do agree that the current roster construction isn’t it – no scoring depth at all. No Center depth obviously. The farm is full of studs, but so far, only Finnie has stuck. And he isn’t scoring at all – just filling out the roster.

Also, Buffalo is riding a GM bump… Still. They’re not a playoff team. They’ll hit a brick wall if they meet Tampa or Carolina in the playoffs.

    Regardless, LGRW.

  2. 8:27 Stevie Y inhereted the worst situation? Ottawa was a mess not too long ago – lost several franchise players who are perennial all stars and Olympic players, had a owner who threatened to movw the team and was the laughing stalk of the league.
Ill admit, Detroit has definitely shown signs of growth, but it seems too little growth and a low ceiling for the length of time they've been rebuilding.

  3. Oh CUT IT OUT.
This is not a collapse. We have serious injuries and we’re in the tightest playoff race ever.
This is a long term plan. The team has improved every year (except last). We have $44m in space next year. We have the top farm system in the league.

Leave it out, bro. Playoffs or not this year, the future of this team is super bright.

  4. The addition of a solid guy like Faulk should have been last years trade deadline. This year should have been the aggressive game changing player trade. We’re a year behind in how we should have handled the trade deadline.

  5. It's hard to pull off a solid rebuild without a top three pick when you miss the playoffs for 9 straight years.

They finished in the bottom three in the league for 4 years and the picks they got were 6, 6, 4, 6. They missed on Dahlin and Jack Hughes 1st overall picks when they had two of their worst seasons.

It's going to be harder when you don't get a chance to draft a superstar. Buffalo had 3 first overall picks in their rebuild, Chicago has already gotten one, San Jose got one, Montreal got one.

The Blue Jackets have also not been able to get that top pick. And they are essentially in the same spot as the Wings. Relying on some very, very good players, but struggling to have a guy who can break open games and win them the few extra points to get into the playoffs.

Yzerman drafted fine, most of the picks are playing as good or better than anyone taken after them. His biggest issue is free agent signings.

  6. You are spot on! They are middling at best and need more offence! Nothing ever gives me confidence as a follower of the team and NHL. A team that excites me is Buffalo!

  7. Dylan Larkin is injured every march. He can't be our only elite center. We need a center to take over the number one spot so Larkin isn't depended on so much. Shame on Yzeeman.

  8. Top talent was maybe a little better? Hahaha. Good grief kid. Third lines were nearly as good as our first line now. The issue is none of the kids have panned out as of yet. Piss poor trade deadline yet again. Raymond got passive again. Larkin always gets hurt. They kept playing worthless Rasmussen.

  9. Their offense isn’t horrible, they have three really solid players, but they’re defense other than one guy honestly is just mid Maybe even less than that, but I don’t think they’re offense is that bad they have shown that they are capable of winning and scoring goals but they do this all the time where they play great and then towards the end they drop the ball

  10. Cheers fella!! I didn't expect the Wings to be as good as they have been this season and looking at their peers, reaching the Playoffs this year felt like a very tall order.

  11. Honestly, all I hear is verbal garbage. You said you don't follow the Wings and it shows.
5 years for a full on rebuild? Haha comical.
Wings have played well this past stretch, probably their best hockey all year, if you actually watched the games.
Steve has made the most out of his 1st rounders after consistently moving down in the draft lottery.
Late rounders to make the NHL are super rare. Don't expect to even have 1 from every draft to make it. Also, 2nd rounder, Aljo is on the team and doing well.
Lastly, what I hate the most is out of all of the people complaining, nobody ever suggest what Steve should do. "He didn't make a trade for Thomas". Okay, how would he have made that deal then? "He couldn't sign Marner". Buddy, Marner never wanted to go to Detroit, how are you getting to sign him?
This is real life, not NHL 26 GM Mode.

  12. "Collapse" has more wins than losses there is no collapse, the East just ISNT LOSING. Every single time we need a team to lose or get 0 points, at a minimum it seems to go to overtime. We lose 1 game, everyone in the East wins 2, its fuckin ridiculous this year and wont be next.

  13. My 2 cents. What top player would have wanted to come play for the wings? Probably no one. They should get rid of Stevy Y. He's done nothing for the team since he started.

  14. Id say that the red wings are NOT facing a late season collapse. In fact, the Eastern Conference is so tight that any game any team loses is going to be big L. The "collapse" has been going on all season, with pockets of multiple wins and multiple losses. Only now, since they lost two regulation in a row, are we calling it a collapse? They've been playing well as of recent, but cannot find a way to get a puck into the net. There is a chance the wings play really well the rest of the season, and still dont make the playoffs. They could have 98 points and still techincally not make it cause of how well the East teams are playing.

  15. Being from TN the Wings got me into hockey in the mid 90s. They were so much fun to watch for someone trying to learn and understand the game. Fedorov is still my favorite player. The last decade has been rough to say the least.😮

  16. I started watching hockey in 1991. The Red Wings made the playoffs that year and every year up to 2016. I went from age 19 to age 44 during that streak. That's insane. From teenager to middle aged. It's so strange to me that the Red Wings are not perennial favorites, but times change.
