Gawt damn! You do not see people connecting clean like that very often.. surprised he was able to eat it.

The comfort this team must feel with the Foligno brothers and all the others on the team willing to protect them must feel great. This will have a huge effect on how our star players will play in the playoffs

You know, I learned to skate in Saskatchewan when I was about 2. Played hockey competitively for around 15 years. Had a cup of coffee in the WHL. And the one constant is the biggest dudes on the ice for some reason always want to go after the smallest guy on the ice. There’s a whole « noble » mythos around hockey players, but fuck big guys lol.

Also curious how that’s not a penalty. The puck is long gone. I know that NEVER gets called, but it probably should if they don’t want players policing the game themselves.

…. Hughes was never protected like this in Vancouver, and now he’s not there anymore. He was getting plastered in the playoffs and it definitely effected his game. So this is a good early indication he’ll be protected in the playoffs.

Cracked him solid at least 3 times!!!

Is it really solid unless you knock him out? I doubt this player would be deterred from making a similar hit again.

I’m going to be more than honest here. Fighting on skates with no weight behind your punches can be effective to a point, but usually the damage is superficial. Flying into someone at full speed while on skates and making someone fly into the wall or leveling someone standing still next to their bench is the type of painful message that gets remembered when that player tries to shoot or skate for the next week.

Fighting is a part of the game, but imo it’s not really a deterrent when you’re on skates. Someone ends up going to the locker room, and the offending player gets to sit back down with a little bruise after their penalty.
