continually mediocre, worst place to be

  2. SeesawLimp

Don’t worry the flyers brass will come out and state “it’s all according to plan” “we are happy where we are” half the fan base will eat it up, and in 5 years we will pick 14th again.

  3. Sudden-Hat701

    No man’s land.

Not good enough to be a legit playoff team, let alone Cup contender.

Not bad enough to get top end talent.

Just good enough to get 38 points from the OT gimmick.

  4. Limp_Bar6899

That’s typically where you need to draft in order to get the right culture guy! This is exactly where Danny wants us to be!

At this point I just want to know what avenue the anti-tank crowd sees for turning this franchise around. If you don’t want to watch your team be shit I can’t blame you, but what other choice is there? What path to success should the Flyers choose, if not the one that every other currently successful team has done?

  6. Evergreen1055

Perfect. I’m sure we can find a guy whose consensus ranking is in the 30-40 range, who’s 6’5” and has terrible skating with that pick.

I wish we could go back to the Giroux trade and
just really tear everything down. Trade Atkinson, trade Coots, trade JVR, Hayes, Laughton, whoever else I’m forgetting.

Collect all the assets and prospects possible.

Give young guys minutes, even if they don’t project to become legit NHLers. Players will always try to win, but if the payers aren’t up to snuff you’ll get the losses the organization needs to get the draft picks it needs.

We do a little bit worse that year maybe we have Logan Cooley now centering Michkov plus a group of other prospects we’ve signed or drafted since.

  8. StrigiStockBacking

Start Sam Ersson the rest of the season and watch the draft pick climb into the stratosphere

  9. Sleepy_Fish1

Right in our sweet spot for drafting a middle 6 two-way player that we so desperately need. /s

  10. Magoatt_TheWhite

Tankathon has us projected to draft Ryan Lin (Defender) with 14th pick.

  11. The_Mauldalorian

but tanking doesn’t work amirite meanwhile san jose and anaheim are exiting their rebuilds

  12. BeefTacoTheMusical

At least we still have our first round pick unlike toronto.

  13. Steppyjim

3 of the last 4 years we’ve picked top 10, the one we didn’t we had the 12th. Almost all those years we slid back.

The brass literally said this is the year they wanted to add and try to win games and develop their talent. They added Dvorak, Zegras, Jiracek, Bump to the pile. Tippett has taken a step, as has Drysdale. Michkov is returning to form.

I have been fighting this fight tooth and nail since the offseason and I will absolutely keep fighting it. This. Was. The. Plan. They are done tanking and want to develop and start seeing what they have in this core. They literally said as much and have been consistent all season. They couldn’t get a top 5 pick tanking, but they got some very good talent that fell to them in mm and Martone. Instead of tanking they’re going the reclamation route. Zegras, Drysdale, Dvorak, Jiricek, Tippett all fit this mold. I can see them targeting a guy like Wright in the offseason to fit their MO.

The goal was to get better and by and large they did. If they were in the pacific they’d be a playoff team. The team has taken steps and gotten better as the season went along. This is progress. You very rarely go from top ten pick to playoff slot in a year, but the level of growth is encouraging.

Now you can disagree with the plan. Totally get it. It’s definitely not a common path to contention. It may bomb. And if next year we’re in the dumpster and miss the playoffs, I will likely be right along side the critics. But this year was the climb year. Next year is the put up or shut up year for this team. If Martone and at least one of Jiricek, Bonk, Luchenko etc can come in and make some noise, we’re in good shape. If not. Well. They made their bed.

Not every 14th pick is a failure. Several in a row? That’s how you become the pre Kaprizov wild. But we aren’t there yet

  14. Annual-Ebb-7196

Don’t forget there is a lottery. So we could move up. But probably will move down. Lol.

  15. ZachB10

Nick Suzuki was drafted 13th. It’s completely possible to find great talents in the mid round. It’s a matter of drafting the right guy. They could pick 1st every year and it doesn’t mean dick if you’re not taking the right guy.

  16. snot3353

It took a lot but between the teams consistent mediocrity and the shitty options to watch on TV, I’ve finally stopped caring and stopped watching. It sucks because I fucking love hockey but the Flyers are just an awful product and have been for so long.

  17. Numerous_Treacle_921

Such a pointless year. Every year they try to win through sheer effort and either lose outright or from exhaustion

  18. SarcasticNarwhale

Thinking positively: maybe they land slightly higher and can trade up to within the top 10 or top 5!

Thinking negatively: This team will forever be doomed to hockey purgatory. Never getting a proper 1C at this rate of play.

  19. Flyers808

Trade Tippett and coots for a better pick

  20. Own_Result3651

Does that other half of the sub get it yet? You know the ones I’m talking about

  21. DH28Hockey

Nazar, Helenius, Smith, Benson all went in the 13-15 range the last 4 drafts, you can definitely get a damn good player in that range. I’m just not convinced this front office can or will

  22. Concerned_Fanboy

But guys if you just have enough optimism the team will be better like come on didnt you ever read The Secret?

  23. ThereAreDozensOfUs

2028 would be 15 years of insignificance.

Which is really impressive. Maybe bringing back former players might be the wrong approach

  24. jp74100

It’s not basketball lol. There’s plenty of talent at that range. Giroux was the 22nd pick.

  25. ekgoalie34

Ok, everyone needs to stop freaking out over 1 regulation loss. Its really exhausting seeing all the doom and gloom. Prior to last night’s loss, the team was 9-2-1 in their previous 12 games. All of a sudden they lose 1 game and the sky is falling. There is still a chance to make the playoffs and you are allowed to have a bad game once in a while.

Idk what it is, but the Flyers have historically been really bad against Columbus the past several years anyway, so I honestly wasnt expecting much last night anyway.

  26. I will genuinely never understand the contingent here who have been spending the last couple weeks being like « *wow this is so much fun! we have a 14% chance of getting into the playoffs! screw the pro-tank people, we’re playing real meaningful hockey and i love watching this team battle!* »

Stupidity. We’re in such a horrible place, we’ve been in a horrible place the last 10 years, and we’ll continue being in a horrible place for the next 10 years unless something drastic changes.

  27. DudicalAwesome

Aw fuck yeah another guy that does everything right except score points.

  28. karma6063

The brass is gonna be popping champaign for this. But not, like, good champaign obviously. But not bad stuff either. They went for that middle shelf champaign. Just as it should be.

  29. PhillyScumbag44

This is why we were better off making the playoffs. The difference from 14 to 16-18 is virtually nothing. I’d rather get Zegras, Tippet, Drysdale and Michkov the playoff experience than gamble on pick 14. I am at the point where I’d rather big game hunt the RFA market than the draft.

  30. Milksteak3919

Glad we made our playoff push last week. Totally worth being mid at best for a decade. Fuck danny brieres pasty bitch face
