What is this wasted McDavid BS? 2024 was not only the year to win, it was the year they SHOULD have won. They beat Florida's ass in 3 straight games, but they got goalie'd in two of them and that's on the players an no one else. Obviously, injuries played a part of that as well.
If the Oilers were the Maple Leafs, that would be wasting talent (ie: not making past the first round most years)
And while I get that Tampa is a well run team, they've also lost in the first round the last 3 years in a row. But nobody is talking about how they're wasting their stars because they managed to win a couple.
Crosby has won 3 cups and is considered to be hugely successful. That means he's failed in like 17 of the years of his career.
If McDavid thinks he's going to make the cup finals every single year, that's not going to happen (In Edmonton or anywhere else). I get that everyone is hungering for that Cup, but you can't let yourself be devastated every single time it doesn't work out.
yes Tampa has a good team and coach but lets not forget they have not won a cup since the 2020 season also. I just think we talk about consistency all the time as fans then right away time to fire the coach we went to the cup final two years in a row. big problem we do not have a goalie it appears who can win a game and players are professional making big money so suck it up and do your jobs. just saying

The Edmonton Oilers are wasting the prime years of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, and Ryan Nugent‑Hopkins. This roster still has too many “bad apples,” and unless major changes are made, the organization risks losing its two franchise players.
Management needs to take a hard look at the situation. Jackson, Bowman, Nurse, and Trent Frederic have all contributed to the team’s inconsistency, and removing those negative influences might be necessary. Owner Daryl Katz has to step in and rescue this team before it’s too late.
If the Oilers miss the playoffs—or get knocked out in the first or second round again—McDavid could very well request a trade. I believe he has two likely destinations in mind: returning home to the Toronto Maple Leafs, or joining the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has already praised Jon Cooper and his coaching staff publicly, saying their system is stronger than what Kris Knoblauch is running in Edmonton.
And if McDavid leaves, Draisaitl won’t stay either. He can see the same thing everyone else sees: the Oilers’ future isn’t matching the prime window he and McDavid are in.
That’s why Kris Knoblauch needs to be replaced before the playoffs begin. The two best coaching options right now are Pete DeBoer and John Tortorella. Tortorella might be the better fit for this group, why John Tortorella Because he would force real accountability, tighten their defensive habits, and eliminate the country‑club mentality that keeps this team from playing championship‑level hockey every night. but DeBoer would also be a strong choice.
Can’t win with a bad goalie and bad defendense . Never happened never will
Knoblauch can only do so much. Oilers GMs continue to kill this team. Any GM in the league would rather have Skinner than Jarry… but we trade away a great d-man and a 2nd-round pick for the downgrade. Plus, the contract is worse (more $/yr, longer term). Trading away Kane, Perry, etc. hurt us big time. Oilers had a historically awesome penalty kill… then we trade away most of them. And the biggest unforgiveable sin is the offer sheets, where we lost Broberg and Holloway. Refused to let two great prospects get any ice time, then lost them when they got frustrated. For every good trade, there are 4-5 real head-scratchers.
I was keyed up about going for it in his FIRST year, and managing the roster to make that happen. This is getting tragic.

No they're not wasting his years, lol. They been in contention for last 5-6 years (SC finals 2 years running). Nothing is owed to Mcdavid or any other player no matter how talented, accept for chance to compete. Nothing is ever guaranteed in sports. Edmonton media has really internalized this dumb idea that smaller cities dont deserve good players or that the city owes Mcdavid a SC.
The Oilers were on their way to building an identity and a culture but all that stopped once they let Holloway and Broberg go. It’s been a revolving door of players since.
They’ve already let McDavid down

Look jackson and Bowman have basically taken away a winning combination. Holloway, Broberg and Foegel and they need to go its nit Knobber come on we need to partially re tool in the summer jackson is a clown and Bowman Holland and Staios had it going on we need to make a big change on the management side

Yall need to REMEMBER its mcdavid that wants to stay and win it with Edmonton and he will eventually. Knob needs to start giving other players chances too he limits a lot of players and over plays drai mcdavid.
Instead of f’ng aroud with middle of the road goaltenders, do what you need to get the Vezina caliber goalie. One of those a few years back and McDrai arguably have 3 cups right now. No team is winning without it.
McDavid is already thinking 2 more years and I am the hell out of here. I wasted the best part of my career on a team that was only good at one thing. Wasting first round draft picks. Should have only signed for 1 year.
He has to coach with the man power management has given them. Still need to find a goalie coach.
Does anyone else feel like whenever a Canadian team gets too close that gary bettman calls those teams GMs, and pays them off so they make the most horrible "mistakes" that makes people wonder how that person even got a job in the NHL to begin with? I have no other explanation as to why this shit has happened otherwise.

They went to a few cup finals, over paid for their d, and players left because they went the distance with mc d and reaped the benefit and cashed out. Its sad to see mcd take a cut to stay and try and get the job done, but at the end of the day, he couldn't lead the team in staying and creating a culture. Not saying its on him, but Jordan, Gretzky, Kobe, yzerman, lemeux, Crosby, get the job done. Im hoping they can turn it around but I think they ran out of horsepower and pushed their assets too hard. Time to break up the band?
The last two years were the best chance. They ain’t going to the finals this year and I doubt they go next year. They likely won’t get back before McDavid’s deal is up and if that happens he walks for sure. Dude wants a cup more than anything.
They dump a good coach who’s strong. Replace with a friendly guy that teaches nothing. Then they fire Woodcroft . Hire Knobs to make McD happy. Now he’s not happy. Knobs not teaching. Oilers are coach killers, never happy.. leadership problem!
I wanted nothing more than that dude to win and bring one back to Edmonton but at this point this is sadistic. Should’ve let the dude go after the second cup loss. Management during the offseason took one of the best units we’ve had and revamped it to one of the most dysfunctional disasters while wasting more time off mcdavids career
