Couldn’t agree more. The whole point of the tank is to acquire young talent to win in the future. If we get a lower position in the draft because the young guys we have now are performing well, seems like an ok problem to have? Would be nice to have a generational type of player to build around though.

This plus Griddy saying he wants to play here with Zayne for the next 15 years!

Conroy did what he could at the trade deadline to sell and get a better pick for the Flames. The accidental result of moving veterans out was that it gave more ice time to younger players who are hungry to show that they belong in the NHL. Also worth noting that veterans Maatta and Whitecloud were not centrepieces of those trades but both have improved since joining the Flames. Here’s hoping that they can still find elite first line players at 7 and 17 or wherever they end up drafting.

It’s wild that people are upset conroy cooked too hard when selling the big pieces team tank wanted sold 😂

The kids are getting their opportunities and starting to capitalize on them, this is part of the process 🤷‍♂️

  5. Everybody wants the Flames to play the youngsters so the team tanks. When those youngsters perform and the team wins, the same people whine and complain about the team not tanking.

This years draft has a lot of talent. We’d be getting a very good player with any of the top defensemen defensemen (Verhoeff, Carels, Smits, Rudolph, Reid) or if we go with a forward Malhotra (future backlund), Lawrence or Belchetz

We also have late firsts and early seconds we can use to draft another skilled forward like Klepov, Hurlbert, Preston etc.

When I thought about that there’s comfort in missing out on McKenna and Stenberg.

Plus I don’t think we’re far off from being a playoff team, defense, goaltending, and effort is already there.

People seem to forget the arsenal of draft picks Conroy has to work with. There is a very high chance he uses atleast 3 or four of those to trade up in the draft.

If the kids are winning us games then I’m happy but I still want the best pick we can get. Does winning a handful of games now make us better in the long run than a high end player in the draft?

I’ve got no problem with our team making moves to get better, but i’ll never want them to stop competing on the ice. Let ’em cook.
