Not a pens fan but thats bullshit

  2. Wait, so we’re calling interference again? I have trouble keeping up.

  3. dntstpblevin

So the skater goes through the blue but it seems like the contact is outside the blue which would not be goalie interference right?

Does it matter that the skater went through the crease before making contact? Or is it point of contact?

  4. skottymac

This is consistently called no goal. No controversy here

  5. draftstone

There is a ton of controversial goalie interference call, but this one is pretty clear. Should be used as an example of what is interference.

  6. MrLugersmole

I see the skate in the crease, but I also see the goalie flop when he feels Towes’ stick on his shoulder

  7. tortured_fanclub

The question for me is, does the Penguin go through the blue paint? Looks close. Goalie is right at top of the crease. I guess would have to be call on the ice stands cause its too close to tell. What was call on the ice?

  8. Empty-Discount5936

Wtf is this commentator on about? Skate clearly makes contact in the blue paint.

  9. bobblehead230

There have been many examples this year that were way more egregious and the goals still counted. It honestly made me nervous when they challenged it. Was totally expecting a penguins power play.

I think the part that makes this controversial isn’t the contact, but rather why the contact was made.

Had the defender not been there, attacker probably skates around the goalie, and doesn’t make contact.

Not that he was « pushed » in either; his route was cut off by good defending, and instead of opting for skating around that, he decided to skate through that. Well that’s going to lead to goalie interference.

Had he beat the defence to the position, then instead D likely ends up pushing the attacker into the goalie, but that’s not what happened.

    Controversial, but right call

If anything the Colorado players stick interfered more

  12. Squatch_orNarwhal

The league needs to adopt a consistent rule this offseason. As an Avs fan this one worked in my teams favor but each time they review these plays, I basically have no idea what the outcome will be.

  13. Acrobatic-Bank-7935

It’s a great call. His back right foot slides into the blue paint and collides with the goalies skate. And with that contact makes the goalie not able to push to the side.

So we have skate in blue paint. Contact with goalie. And he impeded the goalie to make the save.

  14. His skate is in the crease and he enters the area on his own. And he makes contact so it’s probably a good call.

  15. BigMoosers

Penguins player hits the goalie in the back with the stick as he jumps.

  16. Palm-grinder12

Interference is so dumb these days like he’s two feet out of the crease. In a couple years we are gonna be getting Interference calls at the hashmarks

  17. bliceroquququq

He also appears to put his skate down on the goalie’s stick and in so doing, it gets kicked away a bit.

  18. DocPsycho1

I was watching this game, I was was 100% sure they would have called it a good goal. Because I dont have a firm grasp of what goalie interference is. And I as proven wrong.

  19. YVRBeerFan

Not a fan of either team and no vested interest in result of that game. That seemed weak – if the goalie is just above the paint I cannot see this being interference. Weird.

  20. FlashyG

Generally speaking all you need to look for is if the contact happens in the crease or outside the crease.

If it’s inside the crease the goal won’t count almost every time.

  21. North-Evidence-2352

Calls are totally random, different calls for similar situations.

  22. WhyHulud

I see the skates collide, but the move to stop the goal comes after the two separated. Maybe it’s the angle? I would have called this good from these angles.

  23. Reidraider

Wow goalie was touched outside of the blue paint and still called off. Im so confused lol

  24. Xenocles

Not arguing the call but how did Wedgewood fall there? It looks like the only contact between him and Malkin are their skates.

Did his stick get stuck in the skates and then kind of push him over?

  25. Saltfringecrust

Pens were getting out worked all game. They should try scoring more to help the whining.

  26. playr_4

The top down angle really makes it look like thw right call. 16 tried to power through the defenseman and the goalie, his skate enters the blue and makes contact with the golaies skate. Sure, Wedgewood may have embellished a bit, but that’s so up to whoever’s making the call. He has his crease. The contact happened in the crease. Good call in my opinion.

And I’m saying this as a fully impartial party here.

  27. 8teamparlay

This is blatant goalie interference and a good challenge and a good overturned call. Pens player takes the route to the inside of the defender so you can’t say he was forced In, and makes contact with wedgewoods skate directly leading to the rebound and him being out of position

  28. anshityo

I understand nothing and will be happy with it

  29. ZeykShade

Lightning had a disallowed goal exactly like this because Perry chose to try to split the D and the goalie, got bumped by the D into the goalie.

Offensive player isn’t entitled to the ice anymore than the defender is. If you initiate the contact with the defender and ricochet into the Goalie, easy call imo.

  30. itsmidlifenotacrisis

GI all the way. He initiated contact with Toews and then both of his skates wind up hitting the goalie’s skates, and the goalie was in the blue paint the whole time.
