    I’m not sure if this is supposed to make me excited for the playoffs, or more depressed.

    Saying “Carolina has been essentially the same team every year” has an….odd ring to it when you haven’t made it to the finals, but are striving for it; if that makes sense.

    This is only looking at 5-on-5 analytics. This year’s team is significantly better on the powerplay, and that’s going to matter in the playoffs where you typically get fewer opportunities and 5-on-5 goals are harder to come by.

    I know it’s a lot of the same team the Hurricanes played last year, but the additions of Gostisbehere leadinv the PP, Nikishin coming into form on as well, and then much better netfront presence led by Staal, creativity from Ehlers…I really think this team is different.
