Really was such a bizarre ending. Some of his quotes were so bad for a guy with his experience. Honestly made me think he wanted to be fired, but at the same time surely he knew when he signed on it would take years (more than 2-3) to be any good.
Especially with all the buzz around him moving up into management after another year or two.

And then we hired another hockey terrorist

Haven’t had my coffee yet and misread the headline. Was gobsmacked that we’d fire our coach after mercilessly beating Chicago 😂 I’m not sure our coaching has improved without Torts, but our play absolutely has.
Flyfreaky55
They should have kept him to complete the tank

You don’t realize what you got til it’s gone. Miss you Torts. You let the boys play fun rush hockey and even though you still benched our guy you at least gave him good linemates and didn’t hate his guts to the media

We went from the fat into the fire with this deal. 😑
JustTucks
shoulda just traded York

The Brad Shaw era was far too short.

Torts knew that this team was far far away from competing. He knew an actual rebuild is needed and not this retool that is constantly done over and over.
I still enjoyed watching them under Torts compared to what we have now but at least he seemed more trustworthy. Tocchets too busy leaking news to his buddy Biz.

I didn’t like Torts when they brought him on but he won me over. He matured into a real coach leader. He had some « old school » hangups that I would have liked to seen more flexibility on. He didn’t know how to coach a team not built to win now, though. I still say he was the right coach at the wrong time, but he did whip them into shape and there’s still some of that foundation that exists now.

Absolutely should have kept Shaw. Toch is a side grade at best
DEATHCATSmeow
Now do Tocchet
Also, I don’t know if Torts was the right guy for the rebuild or not. As others have said, his comments that preceded his firing tend to make me think not. But holy shit at least his teams were entertaining to watch. Tocchet and his “low event” dump and chase system make me want to claw my fucking eyes out

Torts was a bad hire from the beginning, his methods are not effective with the modern player.
Good quotes, seemed like a nice guy, but time had passed him by.
