It’s unpopular to defend CMac, the Canucks and Aquilini. Daily Hive appears to be a news site with journalists but it’s really a lifestyle blog and news aggregator that employs creators and writers, not journalists. Journalists and news will fact check and reach out for comment. What was published was about a serious legal matter, not a Canucks fluff piece. It likely contained a lot of incorrect information and assumptions, which was why it was ultimately taken down. That has consequences. I’m sorry to hear this happened. Johnston did a story but it was properly fact checked piece that was clear that it did not involve the Aquilini Group and he reached out to the Aquilini Group for comment.
A law firm needs to take this on pro bono and sue.
Yeah I am not surprised. This is why our media is very chill and don’t really ask the difficult questions in comparison to other sport markets. I don’t blame them at all, it’s their livelihood and they need to make an earning somehow.

Disgraceful shit from Daily Hive. This is a pattern over the last few years stories that paint the team in a negative light are not covered, or drastically under-reported. Aquilini child abuse allegations went wayyyy underreported. Hell, the NHL reacted more strongly to Sean Avery saying « sloppy seconds » than they did this! And part of the reason why is because local media were silent about it. Same goes for the farm abuse stories.

Media is not what it used to be back in the day. It used to be a tool for the public, or the « voiceless », to keep those in power accountable and ask them questions.
In the last 10 years especially, media is a tool for those in power to advertise and spread their message instead.
People saying that other canuck media members or reporters should protest, i don’t know about that. Like everyone always wants everyone else to lose their job when someone else does.
Like if youre just a hockey or canucks reporter, its not really fair to expect them to start protesting this. I think way too many people in this sub dont really live with reality.

I’ll start by saying if the story is not true, he deserves to lose his press credentials either temporarily or permanently if the story was written with malice.
However, if this was a legit story then all I can say is the Aquilinis are POS. The sooner they are no longer owners of the team the better. It is time for fans to just stop spending money on the team. The city deserves strong leadership with good character (ha ha billionaire with character — we can wish).

The reason the Daily Hive piece got pulled is probably because it treated a legal issue like a quick content story. Just click bait. That has consequences. Proper reporting reached out for comment, which clearly separates this from Aquilini and the Canucks.
