TROISIÈME ÉTOILE – JOHN CARLSON, D, ANAHEIM DUCKS
Carlson, 36 ans (10/01/90), a co-dirigé la ligue avec sept passes décisives en trois matchs (0-7 = 7). Il a enregistré trois passes décisives pour sa 17e sortie de trois passes décisives en carrière et sa deuxième de la saison (également : 19 novembre contre EDM avec WSH), dans une victoire de 5-3 contre les Canucks de Vancouver, le 24 mars. Il a contribué au but égalisateur de Mikael Granlund avec 3:33 à jouer en temps réglementaire et à son but gagnant avec une seconde à jouer en prolongation lors de la victoire de retour 3-2 des Ducks contre les Flames de Calgary. Le 26 mars. Il a également récolté deux passes décisives dans une défaite de 4-2 contre Edmonton, le 28 mars.
Carlson se classe 12e parmi les défenseurs de la ligue avec 10-44 = 54 points en 62 matchs cette saison. Il a enregistré huit passes décisives lors de ses sept derniers matchs depuis son acquisition par les Ducks de Washington, le 6 mars. Il est le premier défenseur de l’histoire des Ducks à enregistrer huit passes décisives lors de ses sept premiers matchs avec l’équipe, surpassant Jeff Friesen (7 en 7 GP; 2000-01) et JJ Daigneault (7 en 7 GP; 1996-97). Carlson a enregistré 166-613 = 779 points avec une cote de +116 et 392 minutes de pénalité en 1 150 matchs en carrière avec Anaheim et Washington (2009-26 ; 166-605 = 771, 1 143 GP).

Fans are shitting on the Caps as if this isn’t what you should expect from a 36-year-old defenseman who got you a first and a third.
Unfortunately, Carlson needed a kick in the pants to actually play up to his talent level. He made way too many mistakes defensively and was careless with the puck too often his last few years in DC
Never should have traded him. I miss him so much
The problem was not the overall production. It was the defensive decline and lack of energy/speed on both ends of the ice.
With Hutson we haven’t improved defensively but he makes the other offensive players look better than when Carlson was our #1 D man. It’s because today’s NHL is all about speed and dynamism, which is what Hutson unlocks for us.
The other elephant in the room is that offensively we still have a pretty significant lack of talent and consistency. The Ducks don’t have this problem and thus Carlson’s numbers look dang good. Glad it’s working out for them, but for that return, any competent GM makes that trade every day of the week. We just have different team needs than them.
Still stings a bit on the emotional side to see him in different threads but I’m glad he gets possibly a real chance at competing.
Sign him on a one day to retire his jersey if he doesn’t resign with us in the off-season

I watched him play in Edmonton and he fucking ran that team. May have had 5 shots in 30 seconds at the end of the game. Also did a good job getting in 97’s way.
