The Board Room is about the bottom line, a Stanley Cup is a bonus. But if its truly about the other teams that got better this season while the leafs didn't. And the structure, leadership and culture needs to change. To revamp them all using data? This failure will be bigger than ever. That experiment already happened and was called Kyle Dubas as GM. My conclusion is Pelly is winging this in a big way. Simple look is last year the points were a result of team composition. You never heard any of these things before cameras and pressers last season. You can name the players who left, and new players that came, you did here the words DNA change. This Leafs dumpster fire is just getting started.. Berube gets the axe next.

Im not opposed to whatever direction Pelley wants to go. We really don't know what really works these days. He wants to use a "data centric" approach? Awesome. As long as the GM is not "Shannahan Strong Armed" with full control of their position, go for it. All that I ask is to hire someone as GM with a fresh perspective. Chris Pronger comes to mind.

Go check out Pelley’s work history. He comes in, makes a splash, then leaves before the true consequences are revealed and the organization he leads has real long term financial and organizational issues. He is a relentless self-promoter who has climbed the corporate ladder by cultivating a high media profile.
I met him once for a job interview and he came across as tremendously self-confident. I’ll leave others to decide if that confidence is warranted.
