No way Austin will last through the next couple sub-par years which is unavoidable with very little talent coming. He must maximize a return for Austin and start the organization plan to improve depth. 4-5 years out before competing again.
Total rebuilding of the D is required … and build up of high end prospects. Will take plenty of time realistically.

WHe it comes to using information to make decisions it is not all or nothing. You need hockey minds that know the game and players and you need to be able to give them good information to use in conjunction with hockey knowledge. Data itself is not much help. You need a team that can develop a useful framework from which to analyze the data to provide useful and actional information. AI can be a useful tool in this process if you have good people developing it and using it. Most long term successful organizations in any industry do this and hockey is not different. Look at the Florida Panthers … they have a highly effective team working on data analysis and providing really useful information to help make decisions. The Leafs ownership is poor. the management team is poor and therefore the roster is poor and the outcome is poor …. no surprises here.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a hockey corporation and not a hockey club. You people in Toronto don't see it. Look at how you navel gaze everything about rebuild vs retool, and the corporate gobblegook coming from Pelley's mouth.

Pelley in a nut shell. He said decisions WILL be based on data! That means no matter who he hires, no matter how much hockey sense they have, no matter how much experience they bring doesn't matter at all. In other words he has already decided how this team will be built regardless of what anyone else thinks.
