Glad Yzerman finally did something at the deadline.
It just sucks that both players have had zero impact on this team.
the organization is not identifying top tier talent in the draft. that is the heart of the problem. they have drafted journeymen at best. no first or second line players.

Yep! Waste a first because slappys like you two believed the Wings needed to do something. Yes, draft picks take time to develop and some can be busts, but you need those picks when you can’t seem to find free agents that are willing to sign here.
This team is far from competing in a playoff series. What are we doing here? I must be missing something everyone else is because the team I’ve watched can’t score. Can’t compete. Can’t stop a puck. Can’t get out of the zone. Can’t even get a first period out of this group. Why would you nuke this?

He knows how the deadline works, Stevie's been doing this for a LONG time and still acts absolutely SHOCKED at the prices when you wait until 20 min until the deadline to make a deal — meanwhile other teams are getting smart and getting started early and setting the market / Quinn Hughes package looks pretty damn good for Minny all said and done, and everyone said they WAY over paid. I don't believe they did to acquire an absolute game breaker.

I was worried that yzerman didn’t see the team as good enough and only traded for Faulk and Perron just to shut people up. Otherwise he would’ve went all out to try and get Quinn Hughes and/or Panarin.
Fans get too caught up in numbers and stats. Spirit, grit, and endurance in a violent team sport like hockey will often times prevail over skill.
Just look at the 2019 St. Louis Blues
Heck, even Coach Toddfather said the team is lacking spirit in his post game interview.
Red Wings just need to light the flame. Maybe bring Scotty Bowman back out of retirement. That man would literally turn poor roster teams into Stanley Cup contenders.
You guys keep saying things that didn’t turn out so well are still ok cause we only feel bad about such things due to hindsight being 20/20. I’m no expert, but I legitimately was surprised and disappointed that they played Gibson in Philly for that back to back at the start of the game.
Then when Yzerman waited till the very last minute to trade for anyone and then only got Faulk and Perron instead of huge names like Hughes and Panarin, I knew right then that Yzerman’s heart wasn’t in it and he was only trading to appease the people.
Therefore, I’m qualified to say that I don’t think we should’ve traded away our 1st round pick unless it was for Quinn Hughes or Panarin. Said it then and I’m still saying it now, hindsight shmindsight.
I think Scotty is asking the wrong question. Yes, this core is capable of making it to the playoffs. The question you should be asking, is the core capable of competing for a cup? If the answer is no then nuke it. I never see a world were they are capable of a cup so NUKE IT!!!!!!! This core is soft as baby shit and needs to go.
The problem is we suck at hockey and did nothing after we traded for him. If we gave what we gave but were sitting where buffalo is right now. I wouldnt think twice about what we gave.
Faulk was a -3 in 61 games with St Louis, he is a -4 in 11 games with the Wings. Not a good trade at this point.
i dont see buyers remorse, the main reason for picking hiim up was to take minutes off of Seider. Hes doing that. Hes not the problem. The Wings are too small, and they dont even play up to what little size they do have. Plus, they are decimated at the center position health wise.
I think if he protected the first there wouldn't be as much negativity about the trade.

I don't regret the Faulk trade at all. We don't need more draft picks. Faulk will be great for us next season. Sure the unprotected 1st sucks, but that's what you have to do to make moves.
It was NOT the “right call at the time” … Yzerman got D – we needed SCORING 🤷♂️ still out of playoffs. Points don’t matter – every other team has points too. No first round pick is DEVASTATING for them. Since when is only “making the playoffs” the holy grail?
Blues fan. I love the return we got. But, the Blues will not win the lottery with that pick. Just not how things work for the Blues. It will be a large market
I think the Faulk trade will be a good thing. It didn’t solve all the issues, but it crosses a big item off of the To Do list. JBD is re-signed for super cheap. Now, focus on the offense fully. I would rather be young and inexperienced on our bottom six with vets like Shine and Leonard. The alternative of no production doesn’t help and it doesn’t help us see what we have in our prospects. I would see what we have in Mazur, MBN, Danielson, Finnie (if we get a first line winger), and Lombardi rather than trot out guys that we know don’t produce. At least we would know which of those guys have a chance to stick with an eye to the future. Bring accountability to the room by not guaranteeing playing time to guys that don’t bring it. If I was Steve Yzerman, I would speak to each of those guys and tell them that there will be big opportunities to show what they can contribute. Maybe have all of those guys at one of the home games and Yzerman tell them to look at the players on the team and picture who they think they could replace. I think having Shine start up next year and a bunch of bottom six guys gone would send a message that dogging it isn’t tolerated.
Faulk has one more year on this contract. If he re signs with Detroit it’s worth it. If he walks I’m not sure it was worth it. Depends on what the team does next year.
