Thats a lot more talented than what he started with.
People also forget that, without that awful skid at the start of the year, we’d comfortably be in the playoffs
Top 9 looks good
When do we get Toronto’s 1st round pick- they should be awful these next 2 years
Hopefully, Foerster’s going to be able to regain his form. I think if we can find another 60ish point center somewhere to compliment Zegras, then we’ll be cooking. I’m just not sure where that guy comes from.
Briere inherited the biggest mess in the NHL and almost had them in the playoffs the following year. This team has worked hard all year, I’d love to see them get rewarded.
A 4th line significantly better than Hathaway-Abols-Deslauriers is certainly a development, too. I still say trade Tipper for a 1C and get another D stud somehow. Fingers crossed Bonk, Murchison, Jiricek, Zavragin work out, too.
Seems like the deciding factor will be finding that 1C. Looks like a winger group you could absolutely contend with but not great down the middle. Zegras playing center now certainly helps tho
Two things can be true:
1) Briere has done a much better job than a lot of doomers give him credit for, and there’s a lot of exciting young talent in that picture.
2) We lack both a 1C *and* a 2C, TK is not an elite winger (you need to be well over a PPG player to be elite in my book), and let’s not get ahead of ourselves too much on Martone and Michkov just yet.
We’re a team full of middle-six talent, which makes you competent but not close to legitimate contention. But there’s certainly a path to having a very strong forward group in a couple years, which we couldn’t have said a few years ago.
Matthews trade is gonna hit like crack this summer
And this even sells it a bit short…
The available combinations with Couturier, Grundstrom, Glendenning, and Bump means we’re potentially icing one of the best 4th lines in hockey.
Adding a legit 1C would obviously be a game-changer, but 3 second lines and one 3rd line is still a pretty good basis for success.
TK is gonna have an AARP card by the time the youngsters are developed. Him and Tippett are terrible contracts that will prevent them from signing meaningful FAs in 2-3 years to make up for the other terrible draft Jetts, I mean terrible draft Cutters.
Yeah this is genuinely a legit playoff team. Not exactly a contender but I wouldn’t want to face the Flyers if I’m a team like the Penguins or Islanders
I actually have some faith we have enough talent and depth to trade to address needs, a new feeling.
Now trade one of the wings and the Leafs’ pick for a center, Robert Thomas maybe
Tippett, Leafs unprotected first, prospect for Thomas
Thomas, Zegras, Cates, Dvorak down the middle sounds pretty good
Dvo and a 4th to EDM for McDavid, a 2027 1st, a 2028 1st and a hoagie.
Who says no? /s
Yeahhh let’s start getting these guys some playoff experience.
Question:
If Zegras stays & remains at center & improves his face-offs this summer would this end the 1C search?
I know this goes 2 ways, one side will call him a 2C because some feel a 1C should be a 90/100 point center.
The other side could say he’s a 1C because many teams do not have a McKinnon/McDavid type of center & his production is close to Konecny’s who’s a 1RW.
We still dont have a 1C, 1D and likely not a 2C either …
We are still missing the most important and tough to find pieces.
