Holy walls of text batman.
no offence but his drafting record was pretty bad in Vancouver.
Terrible. This subreddit is still the number 1 candidate. Pure out of the box hire.
As a Vancouver fan. I can say that Gillis and his team were an incredibly progressive and forward thinking group. He employed sleep doctors aswell as nutritionists and for a short time was able to turn the canucks into a world class organization. However he felt in 2014 it was time to rebuild and our short sighted and dumb as a brick owner wanted guaranteed playoffs every year. You know the rest.
The Leafs should be tripping over themselves to hire this guy (if hes interested). You have the cash. Make the the Leafs the pinnacle of NHL franchises. Hes your guy.
I hate that I said that as a canucks fan I hold no love for the Leafs.
That all sounds really good. The hope would be that he would continue to think outside the box and come up with new ways to try to win.
Having said that, I love the stuff he talks about creating culture and having the players being involved on a higher level in that process. It’s how I think the Blue Jays have operated and it’s successful.
Needs more plot point graphs and pie charts. 2 stars
I’d go for the separate scouting teams for draft, but instead of combining them, I’d put them into an octagon to duke it out. Winners get to eat the Losers. That way, you end up with the stronger team, but also one you don’t have to feed for a while.
Listen im all for hiring a guy like Gillis, my problem is the fact thay Pelley gutted our state of the art sports medicine division and I’m genuinely afraid Gillis would have his hands tied regarding these behind the scenes « wastes of money ».
That said, if he’s hired, I really hope he’s as good as Shapiro at getting ownership to buy in to these behind the scene expenses in order to create a better on-ice product.
Imagine if the Leafs had as much minor league support as the Jays or at least the Raptors
Thanks for this! Was just reading up on this earlier this week but didn’t see the actual document, just articles talking about it’s content.
Really intrigued about the 2 independent scouting teams and wonder if an organization would really pony up the funds to facilitate that true independence.
I believe one of the hang ups with Gillis is that he wants full control
A lot of teams claim they’re willing to do it, but aren’t actually when push comes to shove
But his time in Vancouver was tremendous. Very forward-thinking, cutting-edge
Been out of the NHl for 12 years, that’s a long time it’s a much different game now.
