1. Some examples of small things they did differently tonight, but made a huge difference. Edvinsson retaining the puck and moving around really well in the offensive zone, causing some breakdown in the Flyers' D, setting up Raymond for goal #2. Another example is Johanson keeping the puck deep in Detroit's zone instead of flicking it away immediately, taking it behind the net then lifting it to center ice, which resulted in the 2 on 1 with Kaner's goal, putting the Wings in front again. Less panicked look tonight, with more patience to move the puck smartly. Let's keep doing that! LGRW!!!

  2. Pound for pound, is there any other Detroit pro athlete who has played any better this year and been as important to his team than Alex DeBrincat?
Sure, Penei Sewell is larger and stronger, Tarik Skubal is more intimidating, and Cade Cunningham is quicker (without skates), but at 5-8, DeBrincat, soon to get his 40th goal of the season, is a maestro on ice, clutch with his shot, and from time to time , isn’t afraid to have a meaningful fight with an opponent who is 7 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier than him.
Yzerman getting DeBrincat a few years ago was his best non-draft move as Red Wing GM.
And by the way, the Cat deserved to be on the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team.

  3. I don’t know the reason for Mazur getting scratched but he was terrible last game he didn’t record a hit so he needs to make a better impression

  4. Can we all agree Cat is such a dog. He scores, he scraps, he’s silky, and he just makes things happen. My favorite wing bar none these last years!

  5. Wings win: "We're fing awesome! Stanley Cup, here we come!"
    2 days later…
Wings lose: "F this team! Fire Yzerman!!!!"

  6. Just finished watching the western games. There is now a 3-way tie for the 2nd wildcard on the eastern and western conference. Should be a fun watch down the stretch as there should not be a single uneventful day for games.

  7. Alex Debrincat is a very good hockey player. This guy is playing out of his mind. So consistent. Love you 🐱

  8. I've noticed that Lukas Raymond is getting in spots where he can shoot and score on the ice but no one can get him the puck. He knows where to go they just can't get the puck to him and that takes time to learn your linemates

  9. As a Detroit fan, you have to take the wins as they come 🤷
We have 88 points, we're in 8th place, and number 88 scored a goal with 8 games left in the regular season.
    That's a sign🤔🧘 – I just have no idea what it means…..🤭

  10. You guys need to relax….they haven’t done anything lately to earn a playoff spot. Still getting out hit, pushed around, still soft. The next game is against the rangers, a team “they should beat” but they’ll shit the bed like usual. Zero confidence is this team, get pushed around, no pushback, soft, no grit. Don’t get your hopes up.

  11. look what happens when you emphasize taking control of center ice in the O zone and defending your blue line. it’s insane to me how they let teams waltz in and start cycling. saw a lot less of that today

  12. I think Dylan for now should be moved to defense men he can still take face offs and drop back . Matt dandenault did it federov did it . Were to slow on blue line Dylan would end all that . especially with edvidson he always flat footed and plays in to deep . I'm glad to see that they actually played with emotion. One game left with Philly in Detroit that should be a good game for tie break elimination game.

  13. I think it's important for this team that Debrincat gets 40 goals this season. Debrincat needs to end the 16-year drought of the Red Wings not having a 40-goal scorer. Marian Hossa in 2009 was the last Wings player to score 40+ goals. I think Debrincat accomplishing this individual feat might help motivate the team and energize the fans.

  14. Thank goodness for DeBrincat & Kaner. Time for the Wings to seize the moment and build on this. It’s no time for more collapse. Scotty’s ‘ two points’ celebration at the beginning was almost as good as the win

  15. Aljo wins board battles constantly. His size is irrelevant.

I also find it hilarious that we can win a few games after Faulk joins the team and you guys talk about how we have a good second pair now. The whole team falls apart and it's right back to "Chiarot has to be on the third pair"

  16. Solid win overall, but my lord can we get Appleton sitting in the damn press box. I feel bad for Larkin, he has no help. Finnie is trying but it's clear he's having a rough time in the second half of the season (as I would have expected).

What worries me most is back-to-back afternoon games this weekend. Best play Talbot against the Rangers and Gibson against Minnesota. We still need to win almost all of our games likely.

  17. Right now I feel like DeBrincat’s consistency this year is the biggest reason our playoff hopes are still alive. I also think it’s crazy to think if DeBrincat hits 40 goals it’ll be the first RW since Hossa to do it in 08/09 season. Man it would be nice to finally get a genuine superstar on the team again some day that regularly gets 40-50 goals and 100 points each year. Lots of teams have one. Some are lucky enough to have two. McDavid and Draisaitl being waisted in Edmonton. Give us either of those guys please and see how we do with them.

  18. Hate to say this but it’s time to take the captaincy from Dylan Larkin. I think Debrincat should be named captain. Even last night, with the Wings playing well, Lark’s body language looks deflated. Don’t know if he is tired or injured but he ain’t leading on the ice. He looks timid, he looks like he wants to be anywhere but on the ice and he looks like hockey is no fun. I think that there is a pattern: maybe next year with no international tourny’s Larks has another chance, but I think pulling the C off of his chest would maybe light the fire. Debrincat is captain material

  19. The wings win, they give us hope
They lose, they give us cope or mope.
Time for some hope again, I guess
And hope for another win my friends

    LGRW…

  20. It's a 3-way tie if you're looking only at points. Looking at everything, the Wings are in a 2-way tie with Ottawa, .587 P%, 13 games over .500. Ottawa has the edge with the first tiebreaker, Regulation Wins, 33 to 29. So the Wings will have to get more points down the stretch. Ottawa has the 10th toughest remaining schedule, and Detroit is 17th. Saturday is a great opportunity to get ahead of the Sens in the standings. They've got the 21-over-.500 Wild at home while the Wings play the Rangers in NY.

Columbus is right on their heels. Same points today, yes, but both Detroit and Ottawa have a game in hand. .579 P%, 12 games over .500, 8th toughest remaining schedule. They've got the 1-game-over .500 Jets Sat. night.

Sunday's a huge day in the race when the Wild travel from Ottawa to play Detroit and the Sens welcome the 27-games-over .500, Eastern Conference-leading Carolina Hurricanes. These two games will bring the Wings and Senators current with the Blue Jackets in games played, who will have an extra day of rest before traveling to Detroit to play the Wings Tuesday in a pivotal playoff-race showdown. That same night, the Sens host the Atlantic-leading Lightning.

If, Tuesday night, the Wings can go up 3-4 points on the Sens and Blue Jackets, they'll be in a good position to play in the postseason.
