Removes ROW. Makes all games equal in value. And incentivizes regulation win pushes
Edit: no ties. We do not want those coming back

Shootouts could be tie breakers but not for points? Idk. I like watching them for the spectacle but not for consideration of a win
dylanx5150
Yes, please.
Ali_knows
Unpopular opinion surely but they just should have kept draws…
OT is 5 on 5 hockey for 5 minutes. If a team scores, they get 2 points, none for the loser. A draw is 1 point for each team.
The 3-2-1would still be an improvement over the current format though.
cheeseball209
Something about this chart is very wrong. With the change, Ducks would have 5 more regulation wins than the Kings, but have 2 less points?
jarigue
Loser point is and always been dumb
RoyalBassGrab
I think it was explained by THG but this point system would never happen because they want the race to be as close as possible at the end of the season so there’s more games that matter during the season
Firm-Candidate-6700
People posting this all year but the truth is it’s impossible to transpose and say this is how it would look.
Teams won’t settle for a tie with three minutes left. In 3-2-1 system teams will try to win in regulation and will change the outcome of games and therefore the reality would probably differ from what’s in the pic.
ReclaimerM3GTR
That playoff race in the west would be entertaining in this format
Gavomor
It would not look like this, teams would play differently if there was a different point system.
vsladko
2 points for regulation win.
1 point for overtime/shootout win.
0 points for any kind of loss.
We need to stop rewarded 3v3 an SO wins the same as a regulation win.
Most-Iron6838
…but I’m starting to like shootouts. Thanks Zegras and Michkov
2LostFlamingos
You’re pretending that teams would have zero adjustments to their strategy.
For example, the Flyers 100% played to ensure OT at the end of regulation yesterday. It’s the correct strategy with the current system and not caring if Boston got a point. Also flyers are better set up for OT / shootout.
If a regulation win counted more, they’d have played differently.
This is not an isolated case.
JWells16
This benefits my team, so I like it.
Traveha
This take sucks because since the league isn’t like that, teams don’t play with the same mindset
thedestruction8542
I say 1 point for a SO win, 0 points for a loss in any manner and keep the tie-breakers as they are. This way it forces teams to want to play to win more than playing not to lose.

No ties man

2 points for a win .
0 for a loss
0 for a overtime loss .
It’s so simple
yawhy
All they need to do.
Professional-Ad3874
No ties. They were not popular and thats why they are gone.
Jipeders
3 pts win
1 pt for ot win
0 pts for a loss
Isn’t rocket science why reward a stalemate
moore112682
Also 10 minute overtime instead of 5. You quite literally hit every box I wanted except I wanted the 10 minute overtime to give all 3 points to the winner and 0 to the overtime loser. Then if they go to shootouts 2 for the winner 1 for the loser. My big thing is there is a “reward” for making it to overtime. In the playoffs going to overtime and losing is a detriment
Chickenator007
I would prefer the 3 point system but it will never happen because it creates more seperation. The closer the standings the more tickets you will sell.

This and 1-8

It’s a way better system. But no one really cares what I think lol.

No loser point por favor

Throw in 1-8 playoff bracket we got a deal
tamere2k
3 point games makes a lot of sense to me. Keep the shootout because it’s exciting though:

all this means too me is the Canucks are worse then I originally thought

So.. mostly the same?

Even though I agree, I’m sick of this being posted every 2-3 days for the last 10 years.

Thanx. 👍🏻👍🏻

As a 30 year+ Canucks fan I’ve never been happier for a season to be over
Top 3 pick this year at least
Aggressive-Mix4971
It’s interesting that the PWHL uses the 3-2-1 system but the NHL doesn’t; even if it likely wouldn’t shake up the standings *that* much, I much prefer an incentive that gets teams to play more for the win during regulation.
But someone already brought up why it won’t happen: the NHL wants super close races for wild card spots in the last week of the season, and they see the current system as the best way to ensure that.

well. we gained a whole… 12 points.

In no world should we be rewarding teams for a loss. Never understood that. You lose in OT or a shootout tough luck.
Avs4life16
Take it a step further and only give points for wins. 3 for regular win 2 for overtime and keep it 5 on 5 and 1 point for a shootout win. 0 points for a loss in any fashion.
Apprehensive-Ninja19
Or, how about we get rid of loser points and don’t even discuss the stupidity of 3 point wins ? Sad times, I won’t even watch the NHL Sports Entertainment® if they add it.
