Love blueger. Would he accept a 3×3.25m type contract? Or does he want more term

Wouldn’t be the worst thing to have too many centers after we saw how bad things got this year.

I really like Blueger he’s one of the very few “older guys” I want to stick around. So I hope he stays.

  4. DistractedPanda

We need guys like this who have heart and want to see it through to the end.

  5. overpay on a 2-3 year deal (the AAV doesn’t really matter). He’s a great insurance piece as a 3rd C and is a really solid player.

I think Cootes makes the team next year so will be important to have some veterans around. We are pretty small up the middle, but that is something to worry about for when we are trying to contend. I don’t think Raty is an every day NHLer unless he improves his skating drastically this summer. Too slow.

  6. I feel like Bluegers a no brainer to try and bring back (if the contract makes sense). Solid veteran 4C, Stanley Cup Winner.

Helps mentor/insulate young players. More importantly, allows them to start Cootes in Abbotsford next season so they don’t botch his development.

Thats nice to hear. Maybe a sign that team culture is at very least in fairly good healthy.

With the Canucks severe lack of talent I would echo drances point I heard a while back. He didn’t get traded at the deadline. Therefore minimal value to us and almost none through the league. As we need assets. And lots of them. Using a roster spot for a player we cannot trade for value. At this point of the rebuild seems like a poor decision.

Sure intangibles. Sure great guy. Sure help young guys but ultimately. We need assets and talent. And he won’t help us there.

Soemthing to consider before bringing him back

I wouldn’t read too much into his comments. He’s going to say those things, whether they’re true or not.

I’m sure he’d love it if the Canucks offered him a long term deal that offers him job security for the rest of his career, but that’s just not realistic.

I don’t believe for a second that Teddy Blueger would take less term or money to stay in Vancouver. He’s going to sign with whichever team offers the best package.

  10. What a trooper. He’s 31, and he’ll likely be 36 before we see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Here’s my thing. Blueger has played exceptional the past two months. He takes a large portion (if not all) of the tough matchups and has been producing offensively. We already have two, relatively experienced centers we’re committed to (Rossi, Pettersson). I think Raty needs more minutes and then there’s Mueller and maybe Cootes. This is realistically Bluegers 2nd last (possibly last) contract, he’s gonna want term. Is it worth taking away opportunity from the younger guys?

I’m absolutely happy to keep him around. That’s the kind of attitude you want in your veterans through a rebuild. I love that. Right attitude and plays hard. Re-sign him.

He won a cup, he doesnt have to chase one, he knows if he stays there is extra money for playing on a rebuilding team, the front office are familiar to him. Its really not a shock and its a nobrainer he wants to stay.

I’d be happy with Blueger sticking around. I was surprised he wasn’t traded but he’s a great veteran to have around during a rebuild.

  15. UpbeatBudgeter

Keep him, we need guys like this. Sounds like he will take a hometown discount and he’s the exact type of guy you want to have around to menor the young centres coming up. Winning mentality.

overpay on a 1 year deal and trade him at the deadline.

  17. BlackMagicMerlin

After Hughes didn’t want to play in Vancouver, it’s nice to have a couple guys that do despite the last couple of years.

Can’t wait to see Big Pete light up the playoffs again

I think a 2-3 year deal for Blueger is perfect. Gives him some certainty, gives the team a good veteran to mentor through the rebuild and also the option to try and trade him again later on if you want.
