I think the best case scenario this offseason will be fire Allvin and Foote. Hire Johnson and Malhotra. Rutherford stays on to help Johnson as rookie NHL GM. Please Please Please hockey gods

  2. Question – when does RJ’s contract expire? After the 2026-2027 season? Denying the Predators a chance to speak with RJ while under contract is completely understandable.

I still believe JR also gets re-signed, but we shouldn’t change our GM until that happens (or until after we find a new president).

  3. Sarcastic__

Out of all the potential open jobs, of course this is the least appealing. It’s for sure a long rebuild, unless the team decides to cut even more bait with the remaining veterans, and there’s no certainty that whoever is manning the position this summer will still be employed when the team is on it’s way up.

Someone will still take it at the end of the day. I would hope we conduct a full search if it gets to that point. I know people like Johnson, but it would be a disservice to not conduct a thorough search and get a lay of the land.

  4. Romance_Tactics

There are people here that want JR fired and RJ as the new GM and what they’re going to find is that an inexperienced GM with no JR working under Aqualini is going to be strong armed into accelerating this rebuild and trying to sneak back into wild card territory.

We ripped the band aid, now we have lots of draft picks and tons of cap space coming up in the near future- a perfect combination for a cheap fuck like Aqua to sniff a shot at making a run at some post-season revenue. You can cash those chips for a quick push.

I get JR isn’t perfect but he’s the only thing holding back every bad instinct of Aqualini running the show and fucking up this rebuild.

    President: Mike Gillis

GM: Laurence Gilman or Ryan Johnson

    Coach: Manny Malhotra

  6. therocksays13

I’m sure a lot of GMs don’t want to work under Rutherford.

  7. Obvious-Property-236

“New rumours every day” should be our new motto honestly

    Experience Canucks hockey

  8. bwoah07_gp2

If the Canucks that Johnson and/or Malhotra walk, I’m gonna be extremely livid.

  9. I agree with Drance’s opinion that they should be interviewing for the best fit, not just the person they want or have internally. That’s no shot at Johnson, but we want the right team to build the next core…

  10. beardycanuck03

This sounds like typical doom and gloom Dhaliwal reporting. Creating conversation and engagement by playing to the Chicken Littles of the fanbase in regards to whether or not Johnson or Malholtra will leave or not.

  11. ReallyNormalAccount

I don’t think Rutherford has always run the show. From an outside view, it looks like he tried to nurture Allvin as his protégée, and Allvin flunked.

I still want Castonguay instead though. The agent-to-exec pipeline in the NHL has been strong and her vision board is clairvoyant.

  12. Reading this makes me think it doesn’t matter whether they fire Allvin, because JR is calling the shots anyway

  13. PaperweightCoaster

I don’t want to lose Johnson and Malhotra which means Allvin and Foote must get the axe.

  14. arazamatazguy

No way Johnson is going to stay if he doesn’t get the GM job here. He’d be better off taking an AGM position in an NHL market. Staying with this organization long term is career poison for Johnson.

  15. ThisIsFineImFine89

If they fuck this up i swear.

the success Malholtra and Johnson have had had developing abby this is a no brainer move

  16. This management team does not deserve the opportunity to head the rebuild. They have shown their incompetence with asset management- THE PRIMARY REQUIREMENT of the job.

  17. TheWeakestLink1

Pathetic that JR doesnt want this to be his legacy. What about bruce and his legacy?

  18. EP40glazer

Rutherford is in charge, if Alvin goes it’ll just be a new guy to manage the Max Sasson signings while Rutherford manages the Quinn Hughes trades.

  19. VancouverApe

If Rutherford runs the show then the solution is obvious. Fire Rutherford

  20. DelviewsNightmare

The reason the GM job is more unappealing than the coaching job IMO is probably because any prospective GM would basically be a puppet for Rutherford… AGAIN.

At least with the head coaching role, your players might be dictated by management but the culture you cultivate within the dressing room, and with the other staff that work under you can be your own, and if it looks good and improves you’ll eventually have more input into roster decisions at the top.

  21. ProgrammerAnnual4254

Canucks fans really convincing themselves a “new GM” is going to change anything when Rutherford’s still upstairs playing puppet master is honestly impressive.

At this point you’re not getting a new direction, you’re getting a new spokesperson. Alvin, next guy, whoever—it’s the same script, different voice reading it.

But sure, keep pretending this is some bold organizational shift and not the same management structure with a fresh coat of PR. Whatever helps you get through another season of “this time it’ll be different.”
