Gary Mason fait sa meilleure hypothèse sur ce qui se passera au cours des prochaines semaines en ce qui concerne l’entraîneur et directeur général des Canucks

  1. I’m not saying Johnson isn’t good, but does anyone have some sort of list of the guys Johnson has pushed to acquire that turned out great?

If he’s a high-end talent evaluator there’s gotta be some examples

  2. Firestorm238

I’ve got respect for Gary as a reporter, but it is pretty funny how he’s become Francesco’s voice to the public. To me this is likely as close to a letter from ownership as we’re going to get.

  3. OhHaiThere-

Shit, a gm and coach who’ve been together for a minute and understand how each other want to build/play?…. Please aqua man. Pleaseeeee

Just take a single look at Seattle and how JS worked with Mike Mac and got a chip in his 2nd year during a “retool” year. When the whole org is on the same page, magic happens.

  4. AccomplishedAd4995

Feel like Manny is a pretty obvious choice here

  5. Feisty_Dirt4191

As many have said, mason is known to be well informed about ownership’s views on things. Malhotra and Johnson seemed likely before, but now I’d be pretty well sure of it.

Drance and others have expressed the sentiment that ownership should conduct a full interview process and scrutinize the best candidates they can find from across the sports world- I agree with that. But these two seem very well regarded, and I like everything I’ve seen or heard from them.

Soooo the process might still be weak but I’m willing to be happy with Malhotra and Johnson as coach and GM

Disastrous situation. You can’t really keep Foote around for two years unless you are committed to a tank/rebuild in those next two years. The guy is not qualified to be a coach and people can see that on his resume. Who made the call to hire him? My guess is it was some GM or JR who said try to keep Hughes by doing this and it completely backfired

  7. Skipbrunch

Gary is usually accurate, but this is the 3rd major national source to give a completely different answer to what they will think will happen in the off season.

I know Dhali keeps going on about « paying multiple people at once », but Allvin and Rutherford are in the final year of their contracts coming up and it’s probably best there be a transition with at least one of them.

  8. TalkinTrash1118

Foote must be removed. I dare say even before the season end for my sanity.
He is the worst Canuck bench boss I’ve ever had the displeasure of experiencing as a fan.
Poor systems. Atrocious communication. No media credibility. Nearly every player has stagnated/regressed under his tutelage.

Punt him to Philly already FFS.

  9. NearbyClub4717

I feel like letting Maholtra and Johnson go just to keep these two losers would be a huge missed opportunity, but it would also be the most Canucks thing to do.

The success and failures of any organization usually start at the top. It Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to rebuild the team and not do the same to management.

  11. More rookie coach/management. That worked well for this team the last 15 years.

  12. We can’t keep Foote. He is detrimental to the team in so many ways. We have so many young players that need to learn how to play the right way and in a proper system. We can still be a losing team with a rookie coach like Malhotra but there has to be some improvement from this disaster of a season.

  13. The_Cozy_Burrito

Foote is definitely gone after this season. The only use we have for this clown is for the tank.

  14. s3xybeavers

I have no idea if Ryan Johnson is actually a good talent evaluator because we don’t know what players he’s had input on. The team that won the Mem Cup was largely comprised of good finds by JR/PA?

    BUT

It’s clear RJ knows how to create a good work environment, and seemingly shows respect to everyone. Same with Manny. That’s extremely important and something this entire organization needs. JR is dog shit at that and PA just seems like a terrible personality (no offence, idk the guy lol).

Talent Evaluation can often, if not always, come down to your scout staff. If RJ can judge character well and understands the power of delegation I’m all for trying it.

This org needs personalities like RJ and MM as much as anything else.

  15. We will burn manny out before this team begins the turnaround. No coach survives at the beginning of the tank to see the rebuild through.

  16. Get Manny, if we get to pick third pick up Caleb. Legacy building stuff.

  17. Isitsunnyout

I’d push for a wide search for both coach and gm but with how ownership operates I’m not sure how many people would actually covet the positions. Think word has spread around the league over the years that it’s ownership essentially pulling the strings here

  18. CarefulHovercraft

I know it’s the unpopular choice but I think the Manny hype is a bit of a trap. He’s got 2 seasons of head coaching experience and one year of success and the other season was a disaster. I’m not saying that he can’t be a good coach but I see no reason why you wouldn’t take a Woodcroft for example over him. Better record and better resume.

  19. Wrong timing for this decision. JR has 1 year left. PA has 1 year left. Foote has 2 years left. You don’t hire a new GM or coach next year while JR has 1 year left on his contract. If JR leaves we’ll get a new president, who will have their own biases, plan, and preferences for their GM & coach.

You don’t make these decisions until you extend JR or hire a new president first. Anything else will just introduce more turmoil at the top of the organization. For heavens sake, we just saw it happen when JR was hired. He booted Bruce out the door because he wasn’t his guy.

  20. Aquilini will have to be dragged kicking and screaming! No way he’s eating 3 years of contracts!

  21. Upstairs_Bad897

I wish we had many teed up for when this club has there ducks in a row. they might not be ever, my biggest fear is brining him up and running into this same nonsense, then him being cooked by the media day in and day out. then he’s gone too.

  22. ProphetofElias

Just bring back Gillis and AV and lets relive the glory days

  23. YeetusbergWilliams

If Rutherford signed of on a three year deal for Foote, and now wants to sack him after one, he has nobody to blame but himself.

  24. Zenless-koans

We’ve ‘eaten money’ on horrendous buyouts and traded for (and signed!) bad value contracts. It never holds much weight to me when I hear that owners will need to eat money on coaches and GMs. They get fired all the time regardless of remaining contracts. I’ve rarely seen a coach or GM that the team doesn’t want stick around because they’ve got a year or two left under contract, anywhere in the league.

What’s a few million that doesn’t even affect our cap room? I honestly think it’s a non-issue. « But Aqua cheap! » Nah not really. Not about direct team/roster stuff anyway. He’s a douchebag and idiot, and ugly and stupid. Did I mention he’s dumb? But he’s frequently spent to the cap and doesn’t seem to count his pennies when it comes to team personnel.

  25. Inspect1234

Bring in Malholtra and Johnson as assistants and then onto future heads.

  26. This organization under Aqua never does a comprehensive exhaustive search for GMs or coaches.
Just whatever is closest at hand or comes highly recommended by a friend or associate.
    Rinse repeat

  27. TheKennyLoggins

We need to lean in heavier to analytics and science at this point when we aren’t going to be spending to the cap.

If they are looking at Johnson, I want them bring in an amiable nerd to be Johnson’s co-pilot AGM. This is a time to mine undervalued players and elevate them in our mediocre lineup to sell at future deadlines.

Foote needs to be gone, he’s hurting development at this point because there seems to be no logic behind decisions, lines, deployment.

Regardless, do a wide search if you are going to do replacements.

  28. CommanderBadass22

Personally I would put foote back as deffensive coaching

  29. maharajagaipajama

I’ve said it before, I think it’s too soon to promote both of these guys for next season, but in saying that if the alternative is losing them to another team (meaning they are a hot commodity) then I understand why the Canucks would want to jump the gun and give them their shot now.

  30. EverySecondCountss

Eating the remaining contract cost shouldn’t matter when Aquilini had 5×5 lined up for Rick fucking Tochett

  31. Nier_Perfect

A 25% chance at getting Dupont is worth another year of Foote.

  32. Prestigious-Rip-419

Don’t care what Gary Mason says. His sole focus is to sell papers

  33. I don’t know if making a GM change right before the draft is the best idea but I also thought we’d make playoffs this year so

  34. Key-Investment6888

losingJohnson will be huge, won’t be as upset if malhotra goes elsewhere as there are many other coaches available. However, finding a new GM like Johnson will be tough to replace.

  35. Not a troll post but I m genuiely interested to see if people want Mike Babcock back as HC?

Worked well for the Ducks so far…

  36. TheTiger1988

Time to bring in a whole new management team. From Pres, manager, coach’s.

  37. Who are these young talented players mason is referring to?
