@Capitals de Washington

Vous avez pensé à Carbery ?

Je vois une tonne de haine sur X. Je veux savoir si vous aimez les glucides ou si vous pensez que ce n’est peut-être pas le gars.

Juste curieux. Je pense que c’est la bonne personne.

He’s awesome and was stuck with an aging group that we couldn’t let go of because of nostalgia. That’ll change next season.

  2. stillinger27

job as long as he wants it. To an extent.

They need to work on finding someone to fix the PP, though some of that’s an issue that is related to components, but generally, he’s doing a good job.

  3. HowardBunnyColvin

It wans’t his fault this team is on the bubble looking in.

Really excited to see how he does with a remade, younger squad next season.

  4. TheSiegeWurm

Carberry is a really good coach and had the rug pulled from under him with Mitch Loves bullshit. Our defense had to learn a new system quickly and not only does it suck but no one seems to know where their partner is

  5. What the team does in year 2 after Ovi retires will dictate his future, nothing now.

  6. Real_Statistician538

I don’t get the hate. I also don’t get why there are multiple posts asking about him every day.

He’s a good coach. He has rallied these guys when they needed it the most. He’s also one of them when they need some advice. He’s someone I would like to play under if I were a pro. I really enjoy his sense of humor too.

  7. Let the man cook. I think he has the right approach for our rebuild.

  8. Worth_Surround9684

Pretty good. Think we still are 2/3 players away from really competing for the cup. I don’t see us making a change for at least 2 years.

  9. sashie_belle

I’m so tired of knee jerk reactions on coaching.

Injuries plagued us, and we didn’t have the secondary scoring like we had last season. This man inherited an aging team. Finally we are injecting youth into the equation. Let’s see what he does with them.

  10. UbiSububi8

I support our front office and Carbs.

Also, until the next NHL Awards, he’s still the *current* coach of the year.

  11. jacoby-mugato

Carbery is a great leader and should be our coach for decades.

X is dumb. Social media and online forums aren’t representative of the general population (including Reddit).

  12. timwhatley993

I wish he would give some of the younger guys more ice instead of rolling out Duhaime every night. Also hope they ditch the man to man defensive zone structure. There feels like a bit of a disconnect to acquire the two guys at the deadline and then just mostly sit them.

  13. BESTLEADER

He’s a great coach with a few blind spots here and there (like any coach) Will only improve with time.

  14. He’s coached three seasons with an old and not very good roster. He made the playoffs in one and got the damn 1 seed in another.

It’s insane that anyone is talking about him being the problem. This is the first year of his tenure where the team hasn’t significantly overperformed its talent level.

  15. RobertGriffin3

There’s a ton of hate for everyone if you look hard enough. Anyone that seriously has a problem with him doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

  16. madmoneymcgee

Last season was the fluke, not this one. Protas and McMichael breaking out at the same time while PLD and Thompson having career best seasons can’t happen every year and instead you had some pretty serious injuries this year that really impacted the team that wasn’t the case last year.

  17. Etheryelle

good coach with a team that is built around an aging player and lacking a solid goalie like Shester, Vasy, et al

  18. Seems fine but the absolute lack of effort addressing the power play is cause for serious concern.

  19. FatherTime1020

Not Carbs fault he’s saddled with a legend who is now one dimensional but can’t be given less PP time or less top line minutes.
Not sure who’s fault keeping Mueller as PP coach is. Additionally by February changing him and trying to teach a new system would have been nearly impossible. But that MUST change this summer.
IMO this summer is GMCP’s last chance. The Caps are flush with cap space and draft picks. And he should operate as if Ovi is not coming back. If he decides in late July he wants to play again and there’s still money for him and he’s willing to reduce his role then great. But waiting on Ovi to build the roster is a terrible idea.
If Carberry gets a more competitive roster and then things go off the rails his seat gets hot.

  20. _SCHULTZY_

Been a caps fan for 30+ years now and seen a lot of coaches come and go. Carbery is fantastic!

It’s not his fault that Patrick did absolutely nothing all season when his top line Center went out. Even a modest replacement would have won us a couple of games which is literally the difference between where we are and where the playoffs are.

  21. SbisasCostlyTurnover

Good coach. Could be a great one with the right investment in the right areas.

That said, they’ve got to figure out the special teams, especially the PP.

  22. Thoughts on someone who thinks they even need to ask as if there is question if hes the man for the job.

    Clueless.

  23. TheGraper58

Carbs is not the issue. The league is fast and young (generally), we don’t have the tools to compete with that yet for a full season. Carbs knows what has to happen and all signs show he’s building in that direction. I have the confidence next season will be much better. Our prospect pool kicks ass too.

  24. I really do not care whom Unc’ Ted puts behind the bench; girlfriend and I still will come to the games.

If you look at it from a strictly *objective* point-of-view……………………….

This is his first NHL head coaching assignment. He did play but only in the minors.

His team made the playoffs his first season when many did not expect it. Yes, one and done but getting there is difficult enough, even more so when it is your first try.

His team made the playoffs his second season. This time, his team advanced. (looking at this in a strictly objective manner, mind you). This is an improvement. While it looks like his team might not make the playoffs, this time, they *ain’t* down Y-E-T. Yes, the team will need some help from the out-of-town scoreboards but if it does its part, it becomes more difficult to blame the head coach.

The team has missed the playoffs once since the 2014-15 season and the same one time in the seven completed seasons since winning The Cup. Some of the important players are getting older. There are some younger who are looking good but they do need development. The point is that at this stage, it is time for a re-build. This is not something unusual, regardless of the sport or team.

To echo a remark that Unc’ Ted made at some point after he took over the team, « *they’re gonna’* suck for a while ».. You can not blame Carbery for that. At some point prior to the completion of the re-build, Carbery probably will be shown the door. That is not uncommon. A head coach/manager works his [donkey] off to re-build a team and it reaches the post-season once or twice but falls short. The team has the talent and everything else, so the finger points at the head coach/manager and O-W-T he goes.

    It *ain’t* Carbery’s time Y-E-T.

Still, I do not care whom Unc’ Ted puts behind that bench, we still are going to the games.

  25. Just get off of X. Recently deleted the app after 15 years and I gotta say it really feels nice not seeing the dumbest possible takes on any given subject every day.

*Carbs has proven he can get a lot out of players and a roster that has been hamstrung by aging legends. I’m very interested to see how he does in the post Ovi years

  26. The only coach we have had since Trotz that has a chance to win it all.

  27. MaddAddamOneZ

He’s still an excellent coach IMO though he should have done more to address the power play.

Look at last night, the Caps still played hard, not perfect by any means but they played hard, whereas Berube’s Maple Leafs look like they’ve quit on him.

  28. idannycdiaz

What do people expect? The team was at the top of the league for 2 decades. Trading young players and picks to keep late seasons and playoffs realities. If bottoming out is still being in playoff contention in April, he’s done fairly well.

  29. AbjectFray

Unpopular opinion but I think he’s on the hot seat and should be on the hot seat.

Saying it’s an aged team or there have been injuries is incomplete and doesn’t account for things like team readiness, motivation, etc.

  30. espnrocksalot

He’s a good coach. I lay a lot more of this season’s problems on the front office for not preparing the roster. Carbs can only do so much with what he’s given. If they make a move and shore up depth before/when PLD went down, we are very easily in the postseason.

  31. ZHicks2121

I think he’s an outstanding coach. Obviously has some flaws but overall a very good coach that players love playing for.

I also think he’s the right guy to develop young players. We may complain about the in-game benching, but I think a lot of that is to protect the young player. He lets the young players themselves and gives them chances to continually improve and play with new line mates. It’s why a lot of young guys have thrived under him.

Excited to see how Leonard, Sourdif, Hutson, and Baby Pro take the next step under him

  32. Wasn’t there another similar post not long ago?? Same comments apply, he’s great!

  33. chiefkylep

I like carbs. Curious to see how he handles ovi next year if he stays. We have to adjust the PP and need an offensive producer on the first line to give Alex some rest.
