    I honestly think Mehta is the reason we fired Fitz. I think they saw Toronto was going to make a push for him and then suddenly Fitz is gone? Timing was just too perfect.

    Id like to think we have a better chance of signing him, hes basically a NJ native and has history with us. I can see him also feeling like he left a job half-finished here and wanting to close the gap on it.

    I’m new to hockey and don’t know much about Mehta, but his resume is fascinating. He sounds like an analytical genius. I just wonder if it’s easy to get too lost in the numbers as a GM when you have that mindset.

    Hopefully the Devils can get him, but at the very least, this is an encouraging sign that the owners are looking for an analytically inclined GM who is more adept with the modern NHL.
