But still a time for change. It’s ok Morgan, it’s just sort of the business. You will enjoy SoCal

I don’t think I’ll ever give up on Rielly (sue me) we need guys with his attitude and investment

But after 2 rough seasons back to back and a window that’s all but closed

Returning is gonna be a tough sell

I feel a bit bad for Mo. he obviously loves it here and wants to stay and contribute. He’s just fallen off a cliff and is so miscast as a 1D.

Better for everyone that there’s some kind of change

I could take or leave Mo tbh. He’s a flawed player, but with better players around him and in a better system I still think he can be a net positive.

  5. If Mo was on the second line I’d probs stop complaining about him. Should not be our number one. Number 2 or 3? Yah sure.

Personally, I don’t think his 7.5M is nearly as bad. Every year he’s falling in salary cap hit for defensemen. He’s like the 35th highest paid D in the league. We have to play him accordingly if we can move him. In two years there will likely be 50+ D who are ranked ahead of him.

The issue we play him on PP1 and his shot is terrible. He’s also not good enough defensively to play on the PK for big minutes in an ideal situation.

He’s been part of every collapse. I think he can be a piece somewhere else, I just don’t see how we enter next year with Morgan Rielly.

Show some loyalty to your home town Mo, and move to Vancouver. Love thr guy but he’s declining hard from a not very high peak.

  8. y2kobsezzed

appreciate the loyalty morgan. but i think you should give your hometown vancouver a chance. just saying

  9. CoolBeansMan9

He’s the one guy who has been through it all, including the 4-1 Boston collapse.

Love Mo, has got to go. Go enjoy the sunshine in SJ and play with a generational talent in Macklin

Every player, coach, exec has an expiry date on a team. Why have loyalty to a mega Corp? Go find a team where you can thrive.

Phaneuf, Schenn, Rielly, Leafs “top D” during my time since I started watching Leafs hockey. I fall for it everytime. But they are all great people tho.

  12. CanadianGuy39

I appreciate this comment. Can’t dislike the person of this dude. He seems like an all around great guy.

Is he the best option for the leafs? I’m not sure about that. Maybe we can make it work financially, if he wants to stay.

  13. mattfromjoisey

Cut his salary in half and stick him on second pair and everyone would likely shut up about it

  14. carletondabare

I don’t think Rielly is a top pairing D but I do think he’d do much better with a different coach once Berube is gone.

  15. Ihopeidontpeemyself

He’s got all the intangibles and none of the skill

  16. External-Pace-1822

We can probably hold on to him at this point. He’s not terrible for a 4/5 defenseman. Just overpaid but it’s not like we won’t have some room in the next couple years and probably costly to move him. Cap hurt us alot in the past though.

  17. steelogreens

    I don’t even know if he’s a bottom pairing d man

  18. themapleleaf6ix

He’d be perfect on the second pair of a contender.

  19. atlasflare97

We have cap, just keep him. It’s not a coincidence his worst seasons come with Berube at the helm.

  20. I’m more leaning towards keeping him. Let him salvage some value under a new coach, and other teams might be more open to taking him next summer with less term. We get to celebrate 1000 games as a leaf next year as well. I’d rather trade OEL this summer who will bring us back value in a trade.

  21. luckylukiec

Holy crap I didn’t realize he’s still signed for 4 more years after this year, yikes! Definitely going to have eat some of that to move him.

  22. I really don’t want to lose Mo. Hes the last guy from the time where I started following hockey seriously.

Hes so damn likeable. Hes not getting any younger of course, but im hoping his 2 worst years being under Berube(and this year post Marner) arent a coincidence.

  23. MotherTalzin

Man, there was a time i would’ve advocated for him to have the C.

  24. Showtime98

I love Mo, always will but its time to waive your nmc man

  25. LeadershipAfter9526

Yeah loyalty to shit the bed and milk every last dollar. At least have the shame to not put your ugly mug on ads. Was 7.5 not enough? This guy took Jake Gardner to heroes game to show his ‘loyalty’. F this troll.

  26. Instimatic

Serious question: if we could move him into a wing position on a third pair “shutdown” line, would his on ice impact improve?

Doubt he’d agree to it but I’d be interested to see how that looked

  27. OkTrueTrue

It will be nearly impossible to trade him without taking back a bad contract or sweetening the deal with another asset, especially considering he has a NMC. I think the Leafs have to keep him and hope that he has a resurgence under a different coach and system.
