    Now everyone who doesn’t watch Oilers games, please spare us your opinions on how shit he is as a player. It’s exhausting.

    No sane person questions Bouchard offensive talent. No person who watches a lot of hockey and oiler games would question his above average defensive play.

    The thing is that for the last several years Bouchard’s mistakes literally cost games and series’. Every elite Dman makes mistakes but his are pretty egregious.

    It’s this factor that kept him from team Canada.

    I don’t care if there’s no chance you’re going to catch them, if you turn over a puck leading to a breakaway you should not be gliding at your blueline watching them score.

    This dude is extremely talented and I would be thrilled to have him on my team… He does not deserve to be in the same conversation as Makar, Werenski, and Hughes.

    I would consider it very generous for him to even by in the same conversation as all the other tier 2 elite defensemen: Heiskanen, Dahlin, Toews, Morrisey, Sanderson, Harley, Theodore, Slavin, McAvoy, Josi, Schaefer, Hutson, and some I’m probably missing.

    There’s probably a reason he wasn’t even a top 7 defenseman for team silver…

    Edited because Schaefer and Hutson are already them.

    I got crucified for saying that he didn’t deserve the contract that he got but every single time I seen him it seems like he’s making a play to cause of swinging momentum or even lose the game outright. When he’s on, he’s really good, but he has way too many of these types of mistakes.

    That’s the problem with Bouchard. His defensive game is horrific. If he could improve that to at least be average defensively, then he would win the Norris easily.

    This is the kind of thing I see in drop-in hockey, where someone tries to dangle through opposing players at the blue line, but gives up a breakaway or 2 on 0. Followed by little or no effort to back check and recover.

    Bouchard is getting paid millions to do what drop-in players paid to do, lol.
