Ummm depends on the pick.. if it’s another defenseman that’s going to brake 3-5 years to develop then we might need more than a top 5 pick. I foresee this “rebuild” going on for another 3-5 years because 1-the division we are in and 2 the lack of scoring we have. Remember
One of our Assistant GMs asking, “Where are the goals going to come from?” Well that’s a good question isn’t it?

  2. We need a good UFA off season and I feel like that isn’t coming soon…

top 2 pick or it doesn’t matter. Bedard Stenberg Kantserov would be insane

  4. I honestly don’t think we’re thaaat far off. Also it’s important to remember that we were bad well before we were rebuilding. We have eight guys on the roster now who were KD 1sts (including Boisvert who probly spends all of next year in the AHL). But it was never realistic to expect any of those guys to be immediate stars other than Bedard. Point being–yes it’s still too early to judge.

  5. you could look at it this way, or you could look at it as a extremely young team with a horrible OT record has achieved a point total that averages ~6th worst and is gonna get at least a top 4 pick.

No idea what people expected, they sold off every young piece they had and the prospect pool was very bleak when the rebuild began, sure they should of done a bit better this season but it wasn’t going to be that much more than the position they ended up.

Unpopular opinion especially here but Bedard has been disappointing and plays like he couldn’t care less.

Every day another thread with people posting how we should just make a trade or get a FA for Bedard or fire everybody and it is worse after losses. It makes sense – losing to the Blues on HoF night with alumni in attendance is not where anybody wants to be.

I personally anticipate a significant trade on draft day but even then we are more than a move or two away from contending for the Central currently with the teams in it. The Wild got a top 5 D man by trading their prospects and still have their work cut out for them. In hindsight, if we traded for JJ Peterka would we be that much better off (even better off at all?)

Stay positive, get interested in the draft and cheer on our guys as that is what we have. At least we have potential to get better in the next couple years which many teams don’t have to hang their hopes on. Our contracts are in good shape, we arguably have the best prospect pool, we have a superstar, we have goaltending, we got exciting new guys coming up – things could be (and were for the Blackhawks in past years) much, much worse and there is a long way to go from lottery team to Cup winner during a rebuild.

Davidson isn’t too good at the « build » part of rebuilding. He’s just been reing and collecting 1st rounders that don’t pan out.

If he didn’t luck into Bedard he would be the worst GM in NHL history. This falls of Wirtz for staying in house and hiring a Bowman « yes man » instead of looking for a real GM.
