I still love this team and that will never change.
I feel for you guys. I love the Wings but I was a kid with the Dead Wings of the 1970's and 80"s, so through my young adult and adult life I got 20 plus years in the playoffs, 8 western conference final trips, 6 Cub final trips and 4 cups…. so PERSONALLY…. I'm good for a lifetime. I do want them to be good again, and I FEEL for the younger generation.
What bothers me the most besides the atrocious pro scouting department with getting free agents, is the lack of taking swing on upside when drafting high. They have no Porter Martone type player that can come in and spark the offense. I would be super hyped if I was a Philly fan. They traded away one of their top offensive upside players in Buchelnicov along with their #1 unprotected pick
Looking forward to prospect profiles!
I stand by this, but if the wings dont get into the playoffs next year, Raymond and Larkin should not be allowed to play international play until they bring the team that pays them to the playoffs. If the trade off for Larkin and Raymond playing lights out for their countries is that they look like shit for the end of the season when we need them the most im not letting them go.
EP40 would take such a huge weight off of Larkins shoulders as 2c, he is an excellent defender so he would eat up a ton of defensive zone starts. And despite his offensive numbers crashing I think he is capable of somewhat rebounding on a new team. People harp on his compete level but he’s leading all NHL forwards in blocks on a tanking team, hard to say he doesn’t care when he puts his body on the line like that.
What percentage of this roster do you think that Todd McClelland hates? 40%….. 50%…..60%…. it's one of those numbers, nothing less than that.
The future is bleak! We are already setting up for the “we heard the fans and we are going to be different speech.” I’m broken as a wings fan.
Take willy off our hands
I blame Evan
A team full of impostors.
Elmer will end up being the worst trade ever for the dead wings.
If Yzerman couldn't add Faulk, without a totally unprotected 1st and without needing to move Soderblom to get a third, he shouldn't have. He failed to hedge his bets with a team with bad underlying numbers and a pattern of collapsing late (in games and seasons). That ought to be fireable. It won''t be, but it's where I finally lost patience. Yzerman has been too casually, almost arrogantly dismissive of legitimate criticisms. When you start with the utter mess Holland left, and you get no lottery luck, you can't compound it by hiring your brother, drafting your buddy's kid, and running on-the-job training for new pro scouts – on top of a record of failure in that department. You can't afford to lose a 2nd with a player, for whom another rebuilding team nabs a 1st. And you can't keep coming back with a bottom-six that isn't productive, or hard to play against.
The season ended against the Sens. They had no D and lost Chabot. Let a kid get his 1st goal in his first game.. and somehow he celebrated more maturely than Larkin did when he scored a PP goal that only made it 2-3. Locker room needs to be a tough place to be if you arent playing well individually. Culture is too forgiving. Sens and Rangers games should have resulted in closed door players only meetings where teammates lose it on each other.
Yzerman can take some heat for Holl Walman Compher Copp. Sure.. no GM is perfect. But again, in their 3 worst years they didnt get a superstar, he tried to fill out the roster around Seider Raymond and Edvinsson and give Lalonde and Larkin a fighting chance. He didnt sign any 7 year UFA deals. Raymond and Seider are on great contracts. They were always going to be a fringe playoff team playing meaningful games in April. The team was good enough to get it but nobody wants the grab the team by the throat.
23- they were in the race and lost 2 games b2b against the Sens in humiliating fashion and Yzerman traded Bertuzzi and Hronek immediately after. Larkin cried about it (yikes).
24- they lose 8/9 with Larkin hurt.. 2 against Arizona and one against Buffalo.. INEXCUSABLE. Miss by a tie breaker.
25- New coach bump but crumble down the stretch.
26- cruising all season but as soon as it ramps up… nobody elevates. Injured or not there was no visible difference in the team when you could see EVERY OTHER team playing at a higher level.
8 eastern conference teams (5 Atlantic) tore the league up from Jan 1st. Thats unprecedented. You can say the Wings had their best year in 10 years and you'd be correct. Sucks the East was so good. But those 2 games (Sens Rangers) was enough for me to want a completely different identity. Seider Edvinsson Debrincat Raymond stay… anything else is on the table.
Yzerman and Todd should be here next year. Its not on them.
The worst part for me was when McClellan said that we're not even asking for Stanley Cups anymore, we're just asking for something to root for and be excited about.
This is how far we've fallen. We're just asking for a heart beat. Playoffs. That's it. We're so far gone from the Red Wings standard. McClellan was 100% right.
There's a bloody generation of Red Wings fans who have never seen playoff hockey or even seen a playoff series win. It's sickening and someone needs to answer for this.
My biggest fear this season was Larkin getting injured during or right after Olympics. Should have rested him after Olympics, he was burnt which led to the injury… But we need more scoring depth. And better D-zone clears..
Anyone STILL defending not trading Edvinnson for heart of prime future HOFer QUINN HUGHES (who on record wanted to play for Red Wings) is 🥴.
I’m a Blackhawks fan for nearly 40 years and am here just for the laughs (and to see what people say about Kane & Cat…insane to me red wings fans blaming 37.5 year old Kane on pace for 60 points and by any metric their 3rd-4th best player this year. It’s not his fault they’re playing him so much and their forward depth sucks. For his age/price what more do you want?!?) and I love you guys didn’t get Quinn Hughes! To still defend not getting him bc Simon Edvinnson is 😆 to me. Quinn wasn’t allowed to re up or even if he said he would it would never be 100% guaranteed.
Wild record with Quinn Hughes?
27-14-7 and he’s playing at over a point per game pace! You absolutely make the playoffs this year with him vs without him.
“Mad” Brad was rolling in the blame segment. Very cathartic for those of us listening. With the same consistency of all the Wings blown leads you guys get us through this dreck. Hats off to you
Having lived in Chicago during the Blackhawks 3 Stanley Cup wins in 5 years the one thing that really stood out was how the Blackhawks would shut down the the other teams when going into the 3rd period with the lead. That was the most frustrating part of watching the Red Wings this year and last.
The pluses this year: Emmitt Finnie was basically not counted on making the roster and chipped in 30 points…..ADB 40 goals…..ASP making the roster….Seider 60 points……
The minuses….. we all knew the Olympic break would break this teams consistency (again)…..losing a 1st rounder…….Kasper
I have never been sold on Larkin and have always been agaisnt him as a captain. Idc if he stays or goes, but that C needs to go. Like… Awful hockey to watch too. Guess it's a good thing I can't afford to go to games because the product on the ice is awful anyway. Another wasted season. Another wasted lead. Pretty pitiful "rebuild" when there are no steps forward ever. Season in, season out. Rinse. Repeat.
I'm just waiting for Ken to finish up the intro with: "anddd…TITS MCGEE!"
Two years away from being two years away.
I know all three coaches have said the same thing in varying degrees. This is more on the players and the lack of drive than we all want to acknowledge. This roster needs a core shake up.
What has the yzerplan really accomplished in the last 7 years folks, common! Send Stevie back to the bolts.
Wow. Having to salute the fans after blowing one more lead to blow your season on fan appreciation night to a rain of boos. It was our Sabres not long ago and I feel your pain. I hereby bequeath this drought to you. Sorry
Let's see if I got this right. The Wings lost several games during the last 10 minutes or less in the season. I don't know where all you Mo Seider fans are lapping up everything he's about. Seider plays defense. Ok, great. If Seider wants to be a difference maker, he needs to be Justin Faulk on steroids offensively. I'm tired of hearing about the German wonder who can't, even if he tried, be a difference maker. Why is Seider out there during a power play? All the Seider fans rave that he plays literally half the game and is a rock of Gibraltar. Can he score? When the Wings are giving up a tying or winning goal within minutes to go in regulation, where is the Wings' defense? More importantly, especially for you Seider fans, where was Seider when these goals against the Wings were taking place? Why does it always seem like there is an excuse for a Seider mishap or that the Seider fans will place blame on anybody but Seider himself? Until I observe Seider as a well rounded defenseman, and not just somebody who plays soccer hockey, i.e. low scoring game where defensemen almost never score, he will never be in the ranks compared to a Nick Lidstrom, Larry Robinson, Bobby Orr, or Denis Potvin. Even Werenski, Makar, and Hughes are much more of a threat offensively as defensemen than Seider, but Seider isn't much more better on defense than his counterparts. The players the Wings are paying $8-9 million a year are expected to perform and should, even as a group, be a force to win, but they're not. Time to move on from those dreamers whose favorite players can't win.
Our only hope is Emmitt Finnie is the real deal and continues to develop into a Hank Zetterberg type leader and producer. Long shot? Maybe but so was Zetterberg.
This pod has always been Larkin cucks. One goal at 5 on 5 in the calendar year. Thats not an Yzerman problem. 71 doesn’t have it.
EP40 aka Petty the Passenger is the laziest and most expensive slacker in the league. No way he should be anywhere near this team unless you enjoy the annual March collapse and want to watch it in December
Who are rfa we can offer??
Just remember look at asp points vs Simon's for the money
Yzerman is a Snake Oil Salesman. Every FA he signed belongs in the cast of Wizard of Oz; Steve the fool behind the curtain.
[24:00] JT Compher should go as well. Im pretty sure he was on the ice for nearly every goal last night
As an oilers fan I get the frustration.
As a Devils fan, we hate our social media department, they are tone-deaf and have no business trying to dunk on anyone… considering we have won 1 playoff series in 14 years and only made postseason 3 times. Wings fans, I get your frustration
Kane needs to go bc he’s a cancer. It said everything when he responded with the “it is what it is” remark after whining when Todd criticized the players . He’s a big part of the attitude problem on this team
The Red Wings need one thing and one thing only, a new GM. Yzerman is the farthest thing from a risk taker and the Wings need that more than anything.
This is one of the better NHL pods.
Let's wait for rational times?????? Its been 10 years and we are still saddled with Yzerman and Larkin. Nothing is going to change. No first round pick as we got rid of that for an average 30+ defenseman. Im so done with these losers.
It's absolutely pathetic, man. I'm so done.
