Yes. This is the 4th coach with this core. It’s a roster issue, not a coaching problem

Yup, wholesale changes needed.
I think we should even rename this sub:

100%. the problem was not all Roy. he just was also a big problem.

Obviously. They should’ve moved on from this core a few years ago.

Even when the vibes were good coming out of the olympic break the isles had to come back from down 2 goals for a lot of those wins and the instant the luck dried up (Schaefer not being able to make magic happen) they fell apart.

Honestly refreshing to hear someone put it so concisely

Math is fun. “11-12 since Olympic break. 4-9 in last 13.” So that means they were 7-3 coming out of Olympic break. It was a 13 game collapse not a 2 month collapse.
The team overachieved all year and then there flaws were finally exposed. Yes we need to continue to make changes but I’m way more optimistic about the future than I was 6 months ago.

The roster shakeup should have happened two years ago. The trotz era core needs to be moved

As long as we keep Sheafer

Yes. What is the best this group of players can do? Challenge for a playoff spot if everything goes right? Great.
It’s time for a meaningful shift in a right direction. It starts by blowing up the old core and leaving this team in the hands of the middle-age and young-gun cores

Honestly I don’t think the « shake up » needs to be something big big major.
Simply don’t resign Lee. That is a pretty big message to send and gets a new C in the room. As you get a feel for prospects next season you make decisions at the deadline whether to to a more extended rebuild or to wait out the vet contracts and use free agency.

Yup, completely agree with him. We lost our mojo after the Olympics and barely held on until we went full titan submersible at the end.

I agree but I’m afraid of the roster shakeup isn’t going to be the players I want to see gone, or it will come at the cost of giving up more picks to offload dead weight.

Everyone not named Schaefer or Sorokin should be made available in a trade.

A full rebuild is needed. Anyone who thinks otherwise is being silly. Borderline or career years from Horvat, Barzal, and Sorokin, and adding a top 15 D couldn’t get this team over the hump. Our underlying numbers were ass the entire season.
Blow it up. Barzal, Horvat, and Sorokin need to be moved, not because they are a problem, but because keeping them would be futile. We aren’t going to win with them, so why keep them for the rebuild?

Someone needs to figure out the power play and this team will win a cup

I like Darche, I think the moves he makes are decent. But from Snow to Lou to Darche – this roster shakeup and moves to be made has never happened in the last 20 years. Roster has obviously completely turned over.
But thinking that there will be a major shakeup and this team is going to look significantly different next year, historically, is a very stupid idea. Team could be way better next year too. But I 1000% guarantee at least 16 of the 19 guys who skated in tonight’s game will be with the org next year
Capital_Suggestion32
Need a backup goalie, replace half the defensemen, and replace 3-5 of the forwards. And the key here is to bring in better players than you are letting go. Seems weird I have to specify that, but we are talking about the Islanders.
Pure-Raspberry1880
What they showed me after the Olympics is that when they needed to win down the stretch they did not have the hunger and motivation to win . They seemed like they just coasting and or playing pond hockey so yeah people need to be shipped out this offseason and build up more draft picks for the future .
