@Red Wings de Détroit

96/97 Ailes contre 25/26 Ailes

  1. Seider being +20 on this team is his most impressive stat lol

If this team had the grit that the team in the 90’s had, we would’ve probably been back on a playoff streak a few years ago IMO. These guys are too soft and aren’t willing to put their bodies on the line night after night, and they get dejected way too easily, it’s just a bad combination to be weak spirited and physically weak.

Still had ties in 1997 and overtime was five on five.

I consider myself a pretty diehard fan, but if you’d told me McCarty actually outscored Kozlov my gut reaction would have been to doubt you

The game has changed a lot. Average goals per game in the 96/97 season was around 3. This season, average goals per game is 6.2. Comparing points per game for players is more important in the context of what was happening in the league at that time as points were harder to come by back then. That 96/97 roster had way more talent and grit.

4 hofer’s on that team but you see no major skill difference? these guys dominated the league.

where are the hofer’s in today’s nhl? i think there’s maybe *one* in detroit.

    ok buddy

Part of the issue with the left side of this list is that Justin Faulk and David Perron didn’t score most of those points with us. They’ve both had productive seasons overall, but Perron has 2G 0A with us and Faulk has 4G 2A with us.

If we’d had their production for the entire season, I bet we’d be talking about how excited we are for the playoffs right now.

I’d be interested in seeing the 96/97 Avalanche and the 25/26 Avalanche

IMO the ONLY thing this team is truly missing is confidence.  When we’re on our game, we
Can play lights out against any team. When we lose focus and make Dumb mistakes, we can drop 3 quick goals.

Of course it would be nice to get a top ten center and another veteran D.  But we have a solid core, good role players and a bunch of young kids coming up fighting for spots.

There was no way the wings were gonna make the playoffs with a – goal differential for the season.

For those curious the league average goals in 97 was 2.92 compared to 3.08 this season

Biggest difference in rosters here is the lack of 1-2 punch at center. Every cup winning team has an elite 1 and 2 C. We will never be a contender until we have that.
