I think he just had enough of the attention. I know the state of a grumpy Slavic man when I see one.

This either means he’ll be back, or he wants to go away quietly into the sunset. I am 100% certain of it

What about a john cena wwe style retirement tour

  4. Key_Benefit_7465

He can’t retire he doesn’t have 1000 goals

  5. If he is coming back, I could see how he would be a bit offended by the Pens just assuming he was too old and broken to come back. In any event, the season isn’t over. He is looking forward to the playoffs, nothing is over for him yet.

  6. Odd-Leg6389

He’s not done yet. Guys a beast, I wouldn’t be surprised if he played another 2 seasons

  7. Averagebaddad

I bet he was getting super annoyed at all the shenanigans

Remember when Fleury was doing his retirement tour and Ovechkin made a point of getting all the Caps players to shake his hand?

Ovechkin understands the need to honor the heroes of the league and there’s no way he’s retiring after this season.

Maybe he’ll become the next Jagr and return on and off for the next 10 years until he breaks the 1000 goal mark?

Why would they try to do a send off when they haven’t heard from the player that it’s his last year?

I’m sure this is more about him still having his sights on making the playoffs and playing the Pens, than it is about a decision being made for next year.

  12. In the moment it seemed like he waved them off because he didn’t want the spectacle, kinda like hey wait til I’m done done then we can celebrate

  13. I mean there is still a chance they meet in the first round too, maybe he don’t wanna jinx it ?

  14. That was the thing that got me the other night…the Pens fans with the ovation…Ovi hasn’t say this is it yet. I got a feelings he’s back next season, then off to Russia to play another 15 years or so like Jagr.

You know… it might turn out to be that he was so moved by the tributes from everyone and the sentiments enough to change his mind.

I know it’s hard to let go of your big super star team hero. I’m a born and bred Penguins fan native of Pittsburgh. I’ve hated ovi this whole time… but only the great ones are worth any of that on. If he was an ok player I wouldn’t care. But he was an amazing player and I secretly loved his race toward Gretzky’s record. I was a whole mess watching this game.

Same with last night’s game. Last time he’s playing in Pittsburgh. I knew Crosby sat that game out because he wanted the 100th game to be on his home ice. I told my wife that he is 100% on the ice tomorrow.

And there he was. I lost it starting with that group pic during warmups, continued through to that opening face off, the tributes, the chants…. It’s not going to be the same.

Maybe that all was enough to convince him to go for another season.

    You never know.

I turned to my wife and said I’m going to need a whole support plan in place for when Crosby retires if this is what it’s gonna look like for HIS last game!!

“We shake hands after one last playoff battle”

  17. HomerStillSippen

Instantly felt like a way of saying “not this year, got one more left”. He definitely didn’t mean it in a disrespectful way.

  18. canadianeh6

I wouldn’t say this guarantees he come back next season.

First of all there was a pretty dirty hit attempt from soderblom at the end of the game that kinda soured the mood

This could also very well be a playoff matchup shaking hands now would be like throwing in the towel for the season they could still potentially edge out columbus.

Not to mention the guy has had like 3 standing ovations this week alone he looks visibly over it at this point

He wants to keep on putting up goals, he will be jagr ffs
